Clarens weekend 20-22May 2011

Our trip to Clarens this weekend, 20-22May 2011,  We had fantastic sunny weather,  obviously very cold this time of the year in Clarens.
First time I had a weekend away on the bike, and first as well, taking my wife with. Didn’t do much gravel as with a pillion and a load it’s not comfortable on gravel. But it was nice to take my wife with as she enjoyed it just as much (not the gravel part thought)

Busy getting ready for the trip and loading of the bags, we left Randburg at 13:15PM

Friday:
From Randburg N3 towards Villiers, We got of the N3 at Villiers and Followed R26 towards Frankfort. From Frankfort R26 towards Bethlehem. Followed N5 which towards the R711 towards Clarens
Saterday:
From Clarens to Golden Gate National park, where we did a small amount of gravel.

Along the way we had a lot of Stop and go road works , X3 of 30 minutes average waiting time, was really painful.

Arrival at Clarens:
The place we stayed at was the Millpondhouse. This was probably the best B&B we have ever stayed in, thanks to Merri and roger. I will recommend them as B&B. www.millpondhouse.co.za

The Saturday we went to the Golden gate National park, when then took a gravel road through the park again to the tar road. Very beautiful sites.

And again Stop / Go road works, but we got it lucky this time as we didn’t had to wait more than 2min before getting the GO art all three stops, as the average waiting is 30minutes.

Look forward in seeing the rest. What is the condition of the roads from Villiers to Clarens. Also interested in doing this trip within the next month or so.

I don't wait at any of the stop and go's......... there is always plenty of time to pull off and let on comming traffic pass.

Villiers to Frankfort - road works

if you are prepared to do dirt, take the side roads, a number of other options, take the road over Oranjavillie and take dirt roard to Frankfort, cutting out all the road works.

If i were alone on the ride, I would have only done gravel, but my wife does'nt like the gravel.... Next time. But Clarens is a really nice place to go to, there are a lot of near by places to go to around as well. Will do more writing as well next time.
