Cracked axel "block"

Hi Guys,

Noticed that this was cracked on my bike after a ride today. Any idea of the cost for a new one and why this would happen?

Last time I tightened the rear wheel collar nut to the torque spec in the manual.

Mines cracked on the opposite side to the below...just didn't take a pic of mine yet.
