Heavy Duty tubes vs Standard tubes

I always ran standard tubes on my bike, until I ran over a nail at high speed and got instant deflation on my back tyre. (Almost saw my gat)

So, fitted a 4mm heavy duty tube. Same thing happened over the weekend with a brand new E07 on the back. Not instant deflation but the tyre went down pretty quick.

My question is : What is the point of running HD tubes then? They are way more expensive, but offer the same protection? And you can't patch them that easily.

Please enlighten me.......
