Hingsding en Hinksding draf die Baviaans binne....and beyond.

As I was all kean for this year's National Bash, we had to attend a wedding in PE the same weekend. :'( My wifey knew that I was quite pissed she suggested that I borrow the priester's trailer and take the Hinks with.

Lock and loaded for the EC.

I tried to get some joiners for a Baviaanstrip on the forum, but as it was NatBash, I was booked for a solo. My inlaws live 10km outside Patensie on the way to the Baviaans. As I did some research I found out that the Baviaans was closed for motorcycles the previous week as the waterlevels was too high. Locals in patensie told me that I should watch out for Smutskraal as its long and the water is deep and there's no reception and by the time I get there I will be tired. With all this in mind I thought I will only ride upto Smutskraal and will head back home.

So with a change in plans I headed of for a short ride..... When I geared up I figured out that I left my boots at home. Later on I figured out that this turned out to be a big positive. Filled the Hinks at 09:00 at Patensie's Coop, and off I galloped into the Kloof

Sjoe maar die plek is mooi. As I knew this was going to be a short trip and I was going to be home before lunch I stopped quite a lot for pics, something that I don't do on a regular basis.

By verre die mooiste pad wat ek nog in my lewe gery het. What makes the Baviaans unique is the fact that there's no sand to battle with. Man and I loved the green scenery. Die Boesmanland is maar vaal teenoor die plek.

My trip was only 45kms long and it turned out that I was at Smutskraal. Now this was just wrong! I just started to enjoy this.

I decided that I will give the water a shot and ride a bit further into the kloof. As I WAS a total noob to watercrossings I was a bit cautious. The water was quite deep to my liking but the feeling was great. Pretty soon the nice sementdrif turned into cobblestones. I wanted to move over from right to left cause the bushes were quite dense on the right. The moment I went over the centre part of the crossing I figured out that the cobblestones were loose as th 4x4s doesnt compact them. My rear spun a stone outof its position and there this Boesmanlander who is not familiar with water was stuck in it.

I had to step into the water with my plaasskoene who is also just as uncomfortable with the situation as their boss.

Now the gameplan changed. I took off my helmet, jacket and gloves and tossed it into the bushes; Pulled up my sleeves and removed the loose rocks which obstructed my rear wheel as it dugged itself into the stones. Standing next to the bike I fired it up and gave it a push as I released the cluch. I got it out of the hole and moved it onto the "compacted track", got on, and rode it out. Damn, I was delighted.

Now I figured it out that Im not going back through this affere again, so the only way is through the kloof. Hiehaa!

I turned up the volume as I was running against some time as I was not familiar with the Kloof and how long it takes to go through. I obviously took less pics.

It wasn't long before the next watercrossings pitched, but luckily not near as challenging as Smutskraal.

As my feet was drenched I couldn't give a damn about the water anymore. I just enjoyed the scenery as this place was built for biking.

My favourite

I soon reached the gate on Willowmore's side. The Kloof was quite quiet, no bikes and a total of 4 cars.

I took off my plaasskoene and dried my socks, as I thought it was the end of the water.....duuuu

I'll try to finish this by the end of the week.
