When everyone got themselves ready for the rugby this afternoon I went for a ride instead. Our little farm borders the Goukou river. I went down to Stillbay over the main bridge turned right and followed the river. This road was built in 1963. Before that there were two pontoons that ferried people and livestock. I rode about 47kms in total and this is what I saw.
The main bridge at Stillbay.
If you like a lot of turns(2 gear) on a dirtroad this is it.
Riverside rivertown.
View would be great from up there.
Our house across the river.
I did the trip wrongway around. The sun was against me for nice pics.
New owners to these old farmhouses restore them nicely.
Water looks good for skiing.
Even the cattle like it here.
This is the end of the river by boat. Total distance about 12 kms.
Sad story about this house overlooking the river. Retired couple bought it and started fixing the roof before
they moved in. The thatchers made a little fire to heat some food too close to the house. The old thatch
caught fire and the house burned down. Sadly the couple had no insurance. Been like this a few years
now.
The lowwaterbridge 15kms upstream. I have to go a bit inland to get back at the river and home again.
Our driveway.
At our backporch.
This was a lazy and slow ride.
Thanks for reading.
