When everyone got themselves ready for the rugby this afternoon I went for a ride instead. Our little farm borders the Goukou river. I went down to Stillbay over the main bridge turned right and followed the river. This road was built in 1963. Before that there were two pontoons that ferried people and livestock. I rode about 47kms in total and this is what I saw.

If you like a lot of turns(2 gear) on a dirtroad this is it.

New owners to these old farmhouses restore them nicely.

Sad story about this house overlooking the river. Retired couple bought it and started fixing the roof before
they moved in. The thatchers made a little fire to heat some food too close to the house. The old thatch
caught fire and the house burned down. Sadly the couple had no insurance. Been like this a few years
now.

The lowwaterbridge 15kms upstream. I have to go a bit inland to get back at the river and home again.

This was a lazy and slow ride.

Thanks for reading.

Thanks for posting, chrisL.
I've not been there a lot recently but many years ago was a regular visitor. I love that route.

Lucky jy!! Dit is mooi wereld wat jy in bly. Wanne nooi jy my biekie?  :deal: Foto's is great. Dankie vir die deel.  :ricky:

Cheers  :thumleft:

Wow! That looks stunning.  I would like to get down there someday.  Thanks.

Thanks for sharing, stunning view's and a real nice driveway.

Baie mooi fotos ChrisL, en interessante geskiedenis...voel jammer vir die paartjie wie se huis afgebrand het!

Hoop jy was darem betyds terug om die laaste stukkie wen rugby te sien!! :thumleft:

Nice one Chris!

I almost popped in by you yesterday, but ended up riding back via "Die Vlug", and got waylaid at the "G spot"

Take care.

Agreed with al the nice comments. What it must be like to have this kinda rides on your doorstep. nice pics :thumleft:

On a lesser note; hows that extension on your screen of your GSA working for you?

The Aerotrim works ok for me. I think some people expect too much of them. Im not very tall in the saddle and just wanted something to take the  wind over my helmet. It does that. Mine lasts aswell. Ive seen and heard people complain about the arms brakeing off.

Lovely part of SA (world!) you live in Chris! Thanks for the stories and photos.

Now, who's the estate agent down there...? ;)

Nice Chris! :thumleft:
So when are we all coming to camp on your lawn! ;D

Sjoe, very nice, doesn't Wilber Smith stay around there somewhere?

Wilber Smith was our neighber but sold all 3 the farms he had when his wife died a few years ago.

Great Pic's Is there any place to stay for a weekend with a couple of friends? It should be nice to do a day trip here and there. A weekend should do as you can do a couple of routes and sleep lekka at night.

Thanks and enjoy

Jip lots of places to rent in Stillbay. BB and selfcatering.
