What is a swag anyway?

The Aussies came up with the idea, it dates back as far as the 1800s when a swagman was an itinerant rural worker, often a sheep shearer, who'd carry his bedroll or swag (with his belongings wrapped inside) on his back as he tramped from farm to farm. But what started off as being simply a waterproof bedroll has been transformed into a portable shelter constructed of the most modern materials.

The thinking behind a swag is quite simple: swags are for sleeping in while tents are for living in. So swags are quick and easy to put up and take down. They'll shelter you from the elements and keep out the creepie crawlies. And with a built-in mattress, you'll sleep comfortably on the ground.

Seeing as how many of us have awnings attached to our vehicles that provide living and working space, arguably there isn't any need for a big tent which takes time and effort to set up and take down if all you're going to do is sleep in it.

OZtrail swag worth R1 399 This is a quality item that's constructed from SatProof 600+ 250gsm canvas and features dual entrances (each incorporating ultra fine insect mesh), sturdy no.10 coil zips and a highly-waterproof PVC floor measuring 200 x 75 cm. The high-density open-cell foam mattress is enclosed in a removable cover, and the whole lot folds up into a 50 x 24 x 24 cm carry bag, weighing in at just 5 kg.
