First off please excuse the pics, they were taken on an older iPhone  :-\

The idea was to leave at 8am from the 1 Stop but after waiting for 15min for the KTM rider (Sprocketbek)  ;) we finally hit the road. The group up comprised Yami Super 10 (pillioning his laaitie Renier), Deadmeat, Moonhicken, Dave, Ian, Buff, Sprocketbek (he caught up to us in Paarl) and Pote, who join us till Ceres.

Deadmeat optimizes adventure riding!!! He rocks up on a CBX250 (road bike), loaded to the rafters with everything you need for camping including a shade net  :D Respect bud  :thumleft:

The trip up was fairly uneventful, except for when Deadmeat missed the breakfast stop just before Ceres and went barrelling towards Oasis without us  :D. He must have had that little 250 flat taps until he eventually realised we weren’t ahead of him and waited at Op-die-berge till we eventually arrived  ;D

By the time we reached Oasis the sun was burning holes in us so it was straight for the fridge for a cold one then into the pool for an afternoon of k@kpraat and balbak.

As the day progressed, so the dogs arrived, some in packs, some alone, each one looking more hot and bothered that the next as the temperature ran up into the 40 degrees. A few of the dogs just came through for the day and left later the afternoon, after rehydrating and packing in some meat  :thumleft:

Dave’s Super Tenere had picked up a puncture on his German made rear tire so my puncture repair skills were tested. The puncture was repaired but then we noticed that one of the existing plugs was leaking so we pulled that one out to re-plug it. That maybe wasn’t a great idea because the hole was rather large so we had to use 2 plugs for it  :-\.

2. Moonhicken on her Dakar on Gydo Pass.

The supper was outstanding as usual as Chantal spoilt us with the most amazing spare ribs & steaks, washed down with copious amounts of cold beer  :mwink:

Then it was back to the pool for an evening of entertainment by the Wilddogs very own comedian, Stoetie . Chantal also gave us an impromptu fire dancing show which was very impressive. The woman has some skills  :thumleft:

Surprisingly enough the party never got out of hand and by 10pm most of the dogs were dreaming of endless gravel roads. It must have been those cold beers in the afternoon sun that acted as sleeping tablets.

We skipped breakfast and left around 8am, going home via Sanddrif & Algeria. Turns out my puncture repair skills suck because just after Driehoek, the plugs let go and Dave found out how lonely it gets in the Cederberg when you leave you riding partners behind and head off on your own without plugs and water  ;). This time it was Yamies turn to plug the tire (Mr Yamaha roadside assist)
:D

Just before Uitkyk Pass we took turns at nearly being taken out by a Porche 911 taking part in the London to Cape Town Rally . The dingbat was putting it into 4 wheel drifts around the corners, taking up the whole bloody road (as rally cars tend to do). This continued until Algeria as rally car after rally car passed us, driving flat taps on public roads without any road closure or notification.  The driver of a short wheel base Land Rover nearly saw his ass when he hit one of those concrete water drifts ahead of me and it kicked the rear wheels into the air. He passed me on his front wheels and I’m pretty sure he need a change of jocks after that little incident  >:D.

2. Moonhicken just before Oasis
3. Puncture repair

By the time we reached Algeria our moer meters were deep into the red and it so happened that there was a rally control point as the road forks right to Clanwilliam. We let them have it with both barrels, with Yami leading the charge, telling where they could stick their European rally  >:D.
They tried retaliating with a bullshit story of “it isn’t a race, just a tour” but that argument fell to shit when the next car arrived in a cloud of dust and stones as he braked hard for the control point, nearly taking out the officials  :eek7:.

The local nature conservation official was also on hand and he was phoning the local farmers to warn them about what was going on as their kids often ride their bicycles on those roads . He also had no idea about the rally and his moer meter was stripped already as well. Needless to say, we’ll be making an effort this week to stop this rally from happening again, at least until they organise full road closure.

Dave’s rear tire kept on popping the plugs so we had to stop every couple or so kilos and plug it again  :'(. Not fun in 40deg plus temperatures. Fortunately Yami had a shitload of plugs otherwise we would have had to stoetie the bike home.

By the time we reached Piketberg we were seriously hot and bothered. The Milkshakes stood no chance and we each polished 2 with a couple of other drinks as well. Thank goodness we had our camelbacks with us otherwise we would have run into serious problems in that heat.

By the time we reached home it was a case of into the pool, kit and all  8)

All in all a very lekka outing, filled with enough adventure to make the trip memorable.

Thanks to all the dogs that pitched and once again, thanks to our awesome hosts Gerrit & Chantal  :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft:

Hy is nie die enigste ou....wat iets verloor het nie!  :peepwall:
