Popi very nice RR.
Just one correction please. It will not be Owambos in Opuwo but Owahimbas.
The Owambos live around Oshakati and Ondangwa.
It's the tourists that made these people beggers. Yes it's a hard live in the bush and begging is easier.

Damm nice report  :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft:

Making me jealous as we were supposed to have been there in April  - but then I broke my leg.....  :drif:

But they are very irritating, normally the locals in the bigger towns beg a lot, but not in the villages, but they begged everywhere!!
Even remote small villages they try to flag you down and then they want money. If you don't stop they shout and point their sticks at you.
Kind of gave me a Lesotho feeling.  Not nice!!!

Totally agree with you.
Just from Opuwo to Epupa and back I was stoned three times a few years back.
The tourists started this tipping business and now it has backfired on everyone visiting the area.
I was charged a 100 Namdollar by the carguard at the OK in Opuwa!!! And he got agro when i said no!!

That lodge looks like a bloody nice place!Probably very expensive? What did you pay for the campsite?

Not too bad considering Namibian campsite prices :thumleft:

I stayed in Opuwa for 7 months in 1985, all paid for by the SADF  ;D , and will be revisting the town in December. It's sad too hear how the town has become a dive and the all the begging. But the country Inn seems like a good stop over.

Very nice RR. Where's the rest? I'm running out of beers.

the Country in is the only stop over. There's nothing else!!
There's a tented camp about 20 km outside of town, but they don't allow camping and they are $$$$

And then there is the Frenshmen's campsite in town. A dump though. Have stayed there twice. Has a pool when there is water in.
Just after Pep  turn right and follow the dirtroad for 200m. It will be on your right.
He has been liveing there for quite some time and married to a Owahimba women.

Nice report.

Day 6:
Distance: 190 km
Accommodation:  Omarunga (Epupa falls) 90 N$ p/p

Today we only had 190 km to do. So we ate breakfast at the lodge and left. The road north was recently graded so it was an awesome ride.
We stopped a lot to take some pictures.

The camping is awesome, you are right on the edge of the river about 30 meters from the falls.

The camp site and lodge.

Now I really can't wait for Decmber  ;D but I can't belive how commercial Epupa Falls has become. I was last there in 85, there was nothing. We spent 2 weeks on the river and the only people we saw were Himbas. The falls still look as stunning as ever  :thumleft:

Nice PP!  :thumleft:

:drif:
