Monday morning, a bit drizzly outside and my daughter wants to go to Franschoek to meet some friends for lunch. So I phone Voltair (The culture vulture) to see if he fancies a ride.
We set off...me with my daughter on pillion and head out to the mayhem in Franschoek.
I drop my daughter off and decide to head off to Villiersdorp. We pass through Villiersdorp and see the sign to Elandsdrift and Kaaimansgat.
Now I have been up this route once before but Voltair hasnt so we decide to take a ride up there.
Its a very scenic route of about 15km along a fairly good road with lots of twisties and a lekker pass which brings you out into a stunning valley which is a farming community with one shop.
We stop for a coolie and ask the locals about riding trails in the area......and guess what ......
we find [THE DISNEY LAND OF ADVENTURE MOTORCYCLING

The Eco trail is a 4x4 trail that goes through the mountains and ends up at a great camp site in a gorge. It has steep accents, plenty of rocks and mud, sand steep decents , fantastic views, forests ...you name it. It is a fairly technical ride, and I was wishing that I had brought a 650 or smaller as the 1150 and the 1200 where a hand full on the trail ...but we did make it to the camp site....and what a lekker place. There are six rooms (very basic but spotlessly clean) lots of space for tents, a very lekker braai area and nice clean toilets and shower. There is a natural pool for swimming in (and believe me you need it after the ride) There is no electricity ....and joy of joys....no cell phone reception either
There are walking trails into the gorge and I would imagine a lot of wild life in the area.
You would need to take all your provisions as this is not a place that you can just pop off to the shops if you forget something.

Then there are still people around that can't live without the bright lights and buzz of city life!

Beautiful!

Yo Coxxie
you forgot to mention that we stumbled upon a fully operational (and in daily use nogal) PACMAN matsjien straight out of the eighties and probably from one of the old dens of what used to be a lekka Hillbrow in those days.

Shows you time stood still in this place and it's reflected in the beautiful scenery we found.

Now, if I can just master that last bump in the road with my bike then I'm in on the camping.

I don't recommend this route for wet days or with pillions clinging to your back as it's a 4x4 route more commonly used by the occasional cage with 4x4 drive and could be quite challenging for those of us (ie: me) that are a little short in the legs department.

Coxxie, time to make a booking

cheers

Voltaire

@Coxwain. Jislaaik ek's in sê net waneer!

Coxwain, do you perhaps have the GPS route from the ride?
Thanks!
Sorry DirtHound... I dont....(Im to old to understand a GPS) But its easy to find.
Just go straight through Villiersdorp direction Worcester and about 3km outside Villiersdorp on the left you will see a sign Elands Rivier and Kaaimansgat. Turn left there and enjoy the ride.

Did you ride tar all the way to Franschoek, or did you do a bit of dirt on the way?

Hi guys and gals
Im resurrecting this post again as I am planning a weekend at Kroonland .
We will leave on a Friday afternoon and return on Sunday.
I haven't set a date yet but it will be before the end of November.

So who wants to join me .... It's not expensive as we will be camping or there are basic chalets for hire.

Put  your name on the list and I will book a week end that suits all.
