Fugly and Slowpoke decided on his birthday on Thursday that we needed to ride a bit of technical terrain with the 800's and we came up with the idea of going to Kakerlaksvlei and Jagtersvlakte which just happens to be plastic bike country. It turns out that Jman and Herms were also keen to join so we decided to meet at the Kentucky in Kabega before heading off.
The conditions looked good despite 4 days of rain during the week. We first stopped to play a bit to get used to what was still to come.
Slowpoke….
Herms….
Jman showing off….
We then entered plastic bike country to test the machines. The gradient of this pic is better with the bikes in it.
Jman….
Herms on his plastic bike….
As Fugly was again the photographer, I moved off last only to come around a corner and see Slowpoke with an evil grin on his face pointing towards a little incline which Herms was negotiating….
I seem to recall saying something about him being mucking fad before gunning the engine and shooting up the bloody cliff face. Strangely, there wasn’t even a moment when I felt the bike was going to send me crashing to the bottom. I made it up without skipping a beat and stopped at the top to wait for Slowpoke as Herms and Jman had already disappeared.
And I waited
And waited…. and knew something had gone wrong so off with the helmet, gloves flung in all directions, camera in hand and charging down the mountain to go find Slowpoke. There really wasn’t any other way to go down but charge, it really was that steep.
And I’m still going down and still no sign of Slowpoke, no engine noise, no screaming, no nothing….
And still going down….
Until finally I find the man near the bottom!
After the mammoth task of picking the bike up, Slowpoke was on his way and now poor Fugly had to walk the few hundred meters back up the bloody cliff! #@$^!!!!
And I walked….
And crawled….
In the @#$^%&% 60 degree midday sun!!!
And still I walked!!!
Please Slowpoke, next time you decide to drop the bike, do it near the top or PICK IT UP YOURSELF! atch:
Phew, that was finished so we decided it was off to Jagtvlakte to play a bit more but alas, he does it again! :
Thank goodness on the downhill this time. Herms and Jman were on the lighter bikes so I sent them down to go help as I may have been tempted just to ride over him on the way down! >
After helping Slowpoke, they moved off to the side to see if they could help Fugly too but sorry okes, Fugly wasn’t stopping to survey the surroundings from a horizontal position. ;D
The hill from the bottom….
Then off to play in the mud, Fugly was the first off and returned up to the top to take photos of the lads playing.
Herms having a moment….
Jmans turn….
Jman and Herms showing how it was done and finally Slowpoke (no you should not be sitting) returning to base….
Herms was sent back down to come up the steeper section that Fugly had done a bit earlier….
And yet again Slowpoke decides to purchase more fertile land…. This time, the bike had firmly pinned his ankle so there was no taking a before photo! :imaposer:
Jman had almost destroyed his brake lever which we managed to straighten.
After all of this, we were completely knackered and decided to give our bikes a nice cool resting spot at Out of Africa whilst a few frosties were gobbled!
We were later joined by Beagleboy and Nemodakar who had just done Elands River so we had a few more ;D
Thanks okes, I had a blast :thumleft:
