After lunch the 100 or so Km to Puros took its toll on the guys with a couple of tumbles in the course sand river beds of the Khumib River before we changed the route and took a more scenic route. Awesome riding, plenty of game and varied terrain got us to Puros Community Camp exhausted. Just before the camp it turned dark and while waiting for the guys to catch up a blak backed jackal calmy walked by, only meters from my stationary bike. Wow. Another awesome Namibia sand camp. (they all seem to have a resident dog or two)

I was really ampted about visiting the Puros Canyons again. Everybody needs to ride through here at least once in your life.

30 second video might give you an idea.   https://youtu.be/hPf4qLic8Ss

We popped out of the lush canyon and 50 meters later we had 40km of moonscape, wide open flat out pick any line you like riding. The contrasts of Kaokoland are mind blowing, with terrain changing with every turn. As the moonscape ends we're back into game heavy river beds on route to Sesfontein. Sixty five km of thick sandy river beds, with 5km of fesh fesh at the end to keep you on your toes.

The final 100km was on a good district road to the overnight at Palmwag, by far the best equipped camp site in Kaokoland with a great pub and restaurant. Sundowners on the deck overlooking the African bush is a great way to end a days riding adventure bikes.

Batteries recharged we took an easy ride to Twyfelfontein , had a chill stop at Aba Haub Camp and then some serious riding to Brandberg White lady for what turned out to be our most interesting camp. More later.

And finally an hour or two of some of the finest twee spoor and river bed sand tracks. The red sand tracks even had a five km whoop section. What a way to end the day.

Brandberg White Lady Camp (reference to a white rhino image) is another fantastic sandy Namibian camp and lodge. We had a late lunch (and cold beer) before setting up camp. Half our crew opted to spend a soft night in chalets but we opted for the tent option and it turned into a great decision.

During supper a German group camped close to us came rushing over in a panic as it turned out a young elephant was raiding their food and doing some damage to their rented 4x4. Brave Gideon to the rescue and managed to herd the young tusker away with the Hilux Bakkie (not even big elephants mess with a Hilux). The big guy was soon back though, hanging around our camp and looking quite frisky, although we never felt threatened. Sadly they have started associating humans with food because some turkeys have fed them. Later after we had gone to bed two more big elephants returned to our camp and hung around a while. One lifted a towel off my small two man tent, poked his trunk repeatedly into Gideons tent to his wife Annette's horror and got pretty personal with Philippe. Other than tipping over our camp table and ripping a table cloth no harm done and we slept soundly. Certainly a highlight of our trip for me.

Next morning we had another visitor, a seemingly tame meerkat (not a GS rider, they aren't tameable). He cruised around a while and the hopped onto the fire place and warmed his belly at the fire. Cool little guy.

After a good breakfast at the lodge we had a chilled ride (in every sense) down to Henties Bay via Uis , along the beach for the last 5km and then onto our guest house in Swakopmund.

We spent an extra day in Swakopmund, including spending a couple of hours at the dunes outside Walvisbay. Riding dune 2 was a thrill, as was just cruising the vast dune area.

Some really good restaurants in Swakop and a treat after bush cuisine for a week. We had great meals at Brauhaus, Tug and Pier 1905.

Sadly our tour had to end but we had one last river bed section before the 300km of district road road to Windhoek, off which the last 170km is rolling twisting hills keeping you on your toes.

A massive thanks to the guys, all of whom had an amazing vibe throughout the 10 days of which some were proper tough. For the guys that weren't that confident on deep rutted sandy tracks before the start I reckon you can tick that box now. The level of riding was a good few notches higher by the tour end. Well done.

The Kaokoland tour is our favourite and we'll at the drop of a hat put together a tour for a group of 4 or more riders. Our next scheduled ride there is April 2017 but i've had interest in a late September /early October trip this year and if we have enough interest we'll go. Our offer includes transport of the bikes from Cape Town to Windhoek return, all fuel.

The ride is recommended for experienced riders only and best suited to single cylinder bikes or very experienced pilots on the big twins. Definitely not for pillions.

Our Orange River/Northern Cape ride is running over the long weekend 5-9 August and offers similar terrain but less hectic and also offers alternative routes around the tougher sections.
