Sometimes great fun is born from "challenges", and with this one there wasn't even beer involved! After my first Ride Report bmad "suggested" it is time that I move on to more difficult stuff, and well what choice did I have but to say: "bring it on!" and so it came about that myself, bmad, eSKaPe, RTR and pistol (and two strangers from the dark side, not sure whether it is myself or eSKaPe luring the dark side every time??), set off early Sat morning in a North Westerly direction from the meeting point at Total on Malibongwe and Witkoppen.

We took an easy ride through the Cradle of Humankind area and on to some open land and an old quarry. The weather was overcast when we started off and the scenery made it feel like we were in Scotland.

As we entered the quarry I decided to just get my first drop out of the way so that I could enjoy the rest of the ride with no pressure!

Our first water crossing lurked around the first corner and it was by far the deepest of the day. After the guys assessed the best way in and out bmad and pistol glided through. At this point bmad thought it a better idea if RTR went left instead of right... Um letâ??s just say that right was the right side!  :eek7:

eSKaPe then wisely decided not to heed bmad's advice and also glided through. As for me this was just a little too deep for my first water crossing experience and eSKaPe was kind enough to take my baby through... Hmm but it seems that once you are used to the 1200 the 650 is a bit more challenging and it doesn't glide as well... so my baby had her first dip but escaped unharmed through eSKaPe's quick recovery, although eSKaPe was soaked!

We then continued through the quarry up, down, over, in and just having all round fun. We were soon confronted by the next water crossing and this time I thought it best to take my baby through myself, was I nervous, hell yea! But I got through intact and the joy I felt is indescribable, although I made a mental note to self to next time close my visor and my jacket!  :p

Now I can tick my first water crossing off my list, however we werenâ??t disappointed throughout the day as the rain from the previous week provided a few more along the way.

The third one of which claimed myself and RTR as its victims at the exit, but we blame the sneaky grassy patch that caught us off guard!  8)

The guys also stopped at two flatter areas during the morning where I could catch my breath and so they could play around a bit, as guys like to do!

By about 10am after lots of mud and water we were ready for breakfast and a beer (or two). By this time the sun was out and heating up the land. We headed through Magaliesburg to Wickers... I ordered a Windhoek Lager, the waiter came back and suggested a Castle Lite!! I objected telling him I was a lot tougher than a lite beer! I now settled for a Hansa, but when said waiter returned he brought orange juice?!  He just didnâ??t get it - this gal wanted real beer! Alas I got a Black Label.

Breakfast was never going to happen at Wickers so we settled for Wimpy. At this point we said goodbye to pistol and the two strangers from the dark side.

After breakfast the 4 of us rode South wards in the direction of Randfontein along the railway line for a while. The road was lovely to ride, no dust, not a lot of mud, but with a few puddles of water here and there that provided some fun and entertainment. And one such "puddle" was crowned the MUD MONSTER of the day as it got the best of all 4 of us  >:D

We then found some more open land (pity about some people's disregard for open spaces they use it for dumping rubble) where we played some more, the guys especially had a good run around and you all know I need my "vodka" breaks  :mwink:

Later when everyoneâ??s bones began to feel tired we took a relaxed ride back home, waved bmad and RTR goodbye, and headed straight to Jacksons Car Wash, as our noble steeds deserved to be pampered and we deserved a cold beer and sushi!

The perfect ending to a perfect  day. Thanks guys for having me along, being so patient and teaching me the "tougher" stuff, I gained so much!  :)

Looking forward to more!  :thumleft:

Misty look at getting more `knobbly` like tyres when you due for a change...

I've recently put Heidenau's on my 650 an  MAN what a difference going off road!

I will never put those dual purpose tyres on again...

Misty how do those little top crash bars I fitted work??

So far so good BM  :thumleft: although I didn't fall too hard, so not sure what heavier punishment will do to them - but I will try my best to avoid such punishment!

Thanks pantsula :) - I will keep that in mind, although it seems tyres are a shortage at the mo?!
