Thanks for the great photos and history Big Oil!! Wonderful place.
What is an added plus is the black top is in such good condition.

You're very welcome, my pleasure.  Yes, the fresh black top was nice, great grip in the curves.

Stunning place!

Would be a dream come true.

It really is a stunning place to visit.  The views are almost too beautiful to be true.

After exiting Yosemite NP, I looked at my map and chose to ride the longer mountainous route with the most curves, instead of riding the quicker straighter and more direct route, final destination somewhere around Lake Tahoe on the Nevada California border.

On the way, I found a Shell Station that was price gouging because of the wildfires.  The proprietor of the gas station exited the store with a stern look on his face as I sat near the sign searching for my cellphone to photograph the sign.  I had to photograph the sign as I’ve not ever seen such high fuel prices in my life.

I’m certain the proprietor was concerned I was gonna turn him in for price gouging.  I had no plans to do so.

Interestingly, after I posted the following pic on social media, someone borrowed the pic and made a meme.

A few days later I found out that the station was being investigated for price gouging.

The riding from the Shell Station to Lake Tahoe was magical.  I found the cheapest motel room around the lake, the area is kind of pricey.  I decided that dinner would be a burger n fries at a burger joint within walking distance of my motel.  It was delicious.

However, and unfortunately, that's where things turned to shit, no pun intended.  The weeks of dining on non home cooked meals, coupled with riding hundreds of miles inhaling smoke from the numerous wildfires burning in California, had done a number on my body.  I suffered digestive and sinus issues, I'll spare you all the gory details, I'll just say that over the next week in Lake Tahoe, California, I spent 7-8 nights, sick, rarely left the motel, didn't get to explore the numerous mountain roads, and had to change motel rooms twice.

On the morning of 7 Sept, I awoke actually feeling decent enough to try and get some miles in.  Because of being sick, the following are the only pics I shot on the morning I left South Lake Tahoe, California/Nevada border.

Instead of dynamiting the mountain, and building a road, it proved cheaper to tunnel through the mountain.

Lake Tahoe is a large freshwater lake in the Sierra Nevada of the United States. Lying at 6,225 ft (1,897 m), it straddles the state line between California and Nevada, west of Carson City. Lake Tahoe is the largest alpine lake in North America, and at 122,160,280 acreâ‹…ft (150.7 km3) it trails only the five Great Lakes as the largest by volume in the United States. Its depth is 1,645 ft (501 m), making it the second deepest in the United States after Crater Lake in Oregon (1,949 ft or 594 m).

The lake was formed about two million years ago as part of the Lake Tahoe Basin, and its modern extent was shaped during the ice ages. It is known for the clarity of its water and the panorama of surrounding mountains on all sides.  The area surrounding the lake is also referred to as Lake Tahoe, or simply Tahoe. More than 75% of the lake's watershed is national forest land, being the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit of the United States Forest Service.

Lake Tahoe is a major tourist attraction in both Nevada and California. It is home to winter sports, summer outdoor recreation, and scenery enjoyed throughout the year. Snow and ski resorts are a significant part of the area's economy and reputation. The Nevada side also offers several lakeside casino resorts, with highways providing year-round access to the entire area.

Lake Tahoe is the second deepest lake in the U.S., with a maximum depth of 1,645 feet (501 m), trailing Oregon's Crater Lake at 1,949 ft (594 m).  Tahoe is the 16th deepest lake in the world, and the fifth deepest in average depth. It is about 22 mi (35 km) long and 12 mi (19 km) wide and has 72 mi (116 km) of shoreline and a surface area of 191 square miles (490 km2). The lake is so large that its surface is noticeably convex due to the curvature of the earth. At lake level the opposing shorelines are below the horizon at its widest parts; by nearly 100 feet (30 m) at its maximum width, and by some 320 feet (98 m) along its length.  Visibility may vary somewhat with atmospheric refraction;  when the air temperature is much greater than the lake temperature, looming may occur where the lake surface or opposing shoreline is lifted above the horizon. Fata Morgana may be responsible for Tahoe Tessie sightings.
