Noneking and Dwerg’s reunion ride.

After our goodbyes, I high tail it back on tar via Langkloof to Ladismith for another overnight stop at Koedoeskloof. Had a good evening with the hosts as usual and @Knormoer who was there for a few days.

Left Ladismith bright and early the next day (although I still managed to delay myself by 30 minutes like all our other mornings).

I destroyed what was left of my rear tyre and had coffee with my wife before 9am. I did my best to look excited to be back home. I think she could tell that even trying to deprive myself for 3 years and despite another scare, I’d still rather be riding than anything else in this world. Thanks boeta, I’m back

The next morning I’m up at daybreak and ready to ride at 6am. I decide to skip breakfast. Luckily I do fill up my backpack bladder with water. No staff to be found and I still have to pay my bill. I head across the street for fuel and then send a message that I will pay via EFT

I’ve only been in Jansenville once…..
Camped there on our way back from a trip in 2015 and @Carlito had to stay awake all night because the locals were trying to rob us

This time I ride straight through and turn off onto dirt just out of town. My Gps is acting up again and i try to recall the route from ehen i was planning.

I turn left into Lootskloof. Check Google maps on my phone an it confirms that the road runs through to bigger dirt road which leads to Pearston.

A single vehicle track is visible so I’m happy that the route is open and rideable. Bridges in good condition

The track leads past a farmhouse which looks like it might be inhabited and shortly after I pass the workers’ compound where I see someone waving. Directly after that, the road starts to deteriorate. Bridges washed away, track overgrown in places and it becomes very clear that this part of the route through Lootskloof is not in use any more.

It gets quite gnarly in spots, but the 990 is in it’s element in these conditions.

The most worrying thing is that I’m seeing a lot of elephant dung on the narrow 2 spoor, albeit dry and definitely not recent
