This report is taking longer than getting through Namibian customs.

Hopefully with everyone back at work today there will be ample time to write.

My awesome, no snoring, roomies the first night.

Barbara (Minxy), Pieter (Twister) and Andries (Andypants)

I wish there was a way to describe the anticipation that night.  Speculation of what is about to unfold, eager to get on the bikes and nerves that's totally shot.

Nothing could however prepare us for the adventure that lay ahead.

Look at those serious faces!

At this stage we are also told that for the next two weeks we are nameless and will be addressed as a number only.

Edit:  From left to right:  Barend Fouche (Honda - Head of Motorcycle division), John Tau Webb (Our awesome leader and instructor), Hardy de Kock (the fearless leader from Specialised Adventures),  Jaco Kirsten (Media Manager and also instructor), Christoffel Hinksding Lombard (Our other awesome instructor) and Ockie Vermeulen (Our doctor, nurse, drug dealer and support from Expedition Medics).

Quote - "At this stage we are also told that for the next two weeks we are nameless and will be addressed as a number only."

Explanation - We did not want to become friends with the contestants at that stage, It makes judging them even more difficult. It did however become more and more difficult to address this group by number only. I, like the rest of the crew, could not believe that we struck it that lucky, to have chosen 20 of the nicest people in this country.

We've seen many pics, but I don't recall one that actually says... "and this is Hardy !" Please post a pic that we can see what the main man looks like.

My preparations for Quest was to leave bootcamp and go on holiday for two weeks and a half weeks. Relaxing and recharging on the Natal North coast was just what the doctor ordered after a sub zero experience in Ceres.

After this it was focus on work and get staff members to take over where I was leaving off. This in its self brought me back to earth with a bang. Leaving a few days to finalize packing in a mad frenzy. I flew into OR TAMBO on Sunday and had kind offers of accommodation from fellow competitors but I needed time to shed my work and family life and focus on the adventure at hand. All this did was give me the nerves that I thought I had side stepped and the reality of what was to come. I take this opportunity to thank my better half and my family for all they did to make this possible for me. I woke at 4am and the roller coaster ride was starting. I LOVE ROLLER COASTERS! With my mind clear and focused my bags are loaded on the bus, airport here I come. I am ready lets do this!

It was breakfast at Wimpy already frequented by some contestants then on to the departures. Reaquantance all round. The excitement was so real in the group that you could almost touch it. I remember thinking this group just fit! I cant see any of us getting on each others ****, how right could I be. As said above it was off to Windhoek then onto the day that we all where looking forward to, our first riding day. Firecoast will understand this having to deal with some of my idiosyncrasies I dont class anything as real until its happening so for me personally I started to relax and enjoy this experience once I threw my leg over my new friend. Anything before this is kinda a blur. "RIDE COWBOY RIDE, THROUGH THE BACK DOOR TO HEAVEN TO THE OTHER SIDE!"
