I have just acquired a Zumo 550, specifically to use offroad on the bike. Two weekends ago I did a trip to Montrose (between Harrismith and van Reenen) to hike and trailed the bike down to get in some rides as well. Gunga Gunga sent me a route that I wanted to do. I had some problems opening the file he sent and had to first update the mapsource software. Not sure what was updated, but a file of about 40mbytes was downloaded and installed properly. I then transferred the route onto my GPS and headed for the hills.
On the GPS the route clearly shows that it ends in the N3. If you zoomed the unit to its maximum it shows the route ending on the left hand side of the highway. I followed the route, which was very easy once you were on the route as there were not turnoff. I eventually got to the end of the route (GPS showed 0 km to go) and was about 500 metres from the indicated end of the the route. I understand the GPS is accurate to within 5 or 6 metres, but 500 is a problem. What concerns me is that on an unknown route a 500 metre difference could result in a wrong turn and getting lost!!
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
