At the top of the pass we headed north is search of the old 4x4 track near Buffelsrivier.

While i was forced to parade the travesty of justice that had been inflicted on me the night before.

Ironically, my family were all in favour of this demeaning turn of events. They said the pink panties made it easier to spot me amongst the rest of the rabble. I elected to keep this sentiment to myself.

Just before dropping down towards the Buffelsrivier we stumbled on a huge granite boulder. For once, there was unanimous agreement to join Craig in his never ending quest for rocks to climb. Approaching it from its top swayed matters in this direction. However, once there it took all we could muster to dissuade Craig from shooting off down it, to get back up in the proper manner.

We all got a turn Boris....😂

Everyone made it down remarkably easily. Just for good measure, Gus threw us into the small river at the bottom, he was on a mission to get our sand riding skills honed for Holgat River.

Fortunately in Buffelsrivier village we found the Madiba Tuck shop with something to drink and a few snacks.

There is nothing quite like a group of bikes drawing up to attract a crowd. Stephan awed them with his drone.

The rest of us received life management advice from a self appointed life coach.

After our refreshment stop we headed out, crossing the Buffelsrivier was a vast expanse of sand which, you guessed it we had to tear up and down a few times to get our Holgat River skills finely tuned.

That evening back in Springbok, we elected to have Nando's chicken for dinner. But Nandos was without any chicken. Eish. Though the KFC stand in was pretty good.

Our planned route required permission from the farmers to traverse their land. They are currently under siege by plant poachers. As a deterrent they have locked as many gates as possible, with the short notice getting all these unlocked was not possible. The consequence was less dirt that we had hoped for, we got a little dirt in between Springbok & Steinkopf.
