BMW R1200GS HP2
Hi guys,
I'm about to replace my clutch.
Is only 32,000km but I abused it in deep sand and mud.

I bought a ceramic clutch from Sachs Engineering (via Touratech).

My question, mainly for those who do their own maintenance: has anyone else reading this post replaced an HP2 clutch?
Or a GS1200 clutch, it's the same parts, altho a MUCH easier job.

On the HP2 it's a fairly big job: need to diis-mantle a LOT to get at it.

The BMW dealer says it takes about 6-8 manhours, altho BMW's official time is 3 hours.
But now BMW says charge the actual time after complaints from dealers (they have to charge the BMW rates on a set job and were losing on only 3 hours).
I dread to think my time to do it.

My question is, has anyone replaced JUST the Clutch Plate (21217697737) or also the Pressure Cover, Housing Cover and Clutch Housing?
I mean replaced as a matter of course: not due to damage.

I wasn't planning on doing it, I figured only my clutch plate is worn (I haven't stripped it yet).
But the guys at the dealer (friendly guys, even tho I don't use their workshop) say they normally replace it all.
Is a lot more cost-wise: £600 vs £300.

Their reasoning is once you have it stripped might as well do the whole hog.
But from my experience with the R80GS and cars, the pressure plate and housings are usually fine.

But it IS a big job and I'd HATE to do it and then find it's not right after all that just due to trying to save the £300.
However it DOES seem a bit excessive.
MAYBE the pressure plate fingers can get worn/bent, but the rest???

The guys here have no stock so have to order in so takes a few days.
And then because they ordered it I cannot return it.
So I cannot get a set just in case then return it.

I'm hoping to have on hand so I can replace it same day.
Obviously if it IS damaged I WILL replace whatever.
Assuming the damage is obvious (maybe not so obvious on the pressure plate fingers).

Anyways, any idea?

Thanks,
Alan
