So Saturday saw me out riding again. That's 2 weekends in a row! It's a tough job but I guess someone's gotta do it.
Last week I get an SMS from a lady soon to join the forum as Dorothee, also affectionately henceforth known as "GI Jones". "Please could we maybe do something, Saturday looks like the best weather." And it was! What an awesome day.
I planned a quick trip, roughly based on our "No Direction" trip a few weeks back. First, plan of action, breakfast in Jeffreys. So off we went.
The route, minus a few "secret" tracks. Will add all the GPS Co-ords a little later.
First obligatory stop on van Stadens bridge.
Then along the Gamtoos River.
After breakfast we headed for the causeway over the Seekoeirivier, and on to the Impofu dam.
The causeway.
Dorothee on her yellow brick road.
Overlooking the Impofu Dam
This dam is really low.
Moving along the yellow brick road we came acrossTin man, Scarecrow, the cowardly lion, sorry, just some cows, munching their way along the field.
Dorothee having a chat. Trying to find the lions roar?
The roads just kept getting better.
Until we ended up on the track.
Dorothee, riding like a champ.
Having a rest.
Dorothee's GS.
The view.
On our way to Churchill Dam.
Dorothee and the flower, or is it the flower and the Protea?
The road got more and more technical, with loose gravel, rocks, ruts and the odd small watercrossing.
Stopping at another crossing for a breather.
And then up the little hill toward the dam.
Came across this little critter too, but I think he was a little dof. He didn't know where the lion's roar was either!
He didn't even know where all the water was!
We went to see if we could see the submerged house. Here it is.
Dorothee and Heather.
Despite the drought, some things still grow like weeds.
Another angle.
We then headed for Nemodakar and Sweetness' place for a cold one.
Approaching Hankey.
Sweetness and Dorothee.
While the ladies sat and had a drink Nemo and I went to pick some narchies. Thanks Nemo!
Check out the view from their veranda.
From there, we slabbed it back as it was already getting late, so no more photos.
Dorothee, thanks for the awesome day. As I said, I am impressed, I'm proud of you and will ride with you again any day.
PS. Just heard that Dorothee had an off yesterday and broke her wrist. :-\
