Routing: Colesberg to Riversdale and back?

My son will be playing rugby, later this year, down in Riversdale and if the weather permits, I'm planning on doing the trip by bike. I would appreciate some routing suggestions, please.
Planning on doing two days there and two days back, spending one night along the way, going down and coming back. Maybe routing to Riversdale, keeping to the south of the N9: places like Cradock, Pearston, Janssenville, Steytlerville, etc comes to mind. Coming back, keeping to the north, between the N9 and the N1: maybe routing Calitzdorp, Prince Albert, Rietbron, Murraysburg, etc.
