Sani Pass was damaged over a week ago by a cloud burst and flash flood which resulted in extensive damage to the pass and it was closed. On Sunday 6 of us ventured up for the challenge. The riders were Paul Trimborn, Gavan Gray (WD), Mark Sorour (WD), Sean Loos, Rod Gray (Road Racer Champ from the 80s) all on KTM 690's and myself Blake Mackenzie (WD) on KTM 990R. On arrival at the SA Border post we were greeted by the friendly SA police who advised, you go at your own risk. So we set off and with an hour were at the top. I have been going up Sani for over 30 years and have never seen the pass in such bad condition. It was a great ride to the top with some pushing pulling and a KTM 990 that over heated twice. Thanks to the team who joined me for the ride, it was an awesome challenge and adventureous Day.

If you are wanting to attempt the pass, you need to do it before the weekend as I have inside information that Dozers and Excavators have been despathed to day to start with repairs to make the pass passable.

Some photo's attached.

Cheers

Goeie werk.

Die pas was lankal nie meer 'n challenge nie maar hy sal seker binnekort weer so wees dat jy hom met 'n superbike kan ry.

I believe the road is repaired already and open  ::)  May be worth checking.

Spoed, the sani falls under south Africa, going to be tarred by sa, not Chinese. The border crossing is at the top.

It's also a 10 year project, if Chinese were going to do it, would have been done in a year, like semonkong south. About 40km in 3 years.

Looks like it was a brilliant day out!  The guys at the tops must have been glad to see some customers?

Looks like a bit challenging in places.  :ricky:

Blimey, have not seen Rod since the Pietermaritzburg days. ±1984  :thumleft:

Rod Gray rode in the classics bikes this weekend in Zwartkops, he will be riding the same class in Cape Town.
