You saw the thread in the planning section about Piet Skiet. He was an outlaw who hid away in the Bo-Piket Berg mountains, raping women and killing men. The law did caught up with him and he's currently serving a life sentence. He did manage to evade the law for a while in the rugged mountain terrain of Piketberg.
BTW the word piket comes from pike which refered to the armed pikemen who used to guard the pass in the area.
We left Friday at 3 after a meeting at Kriges in Durbanville, rode some dirtroads via Porterville to Piketberg. It was hot and I only took my camera out on the Versveld Pass leading into the Bo-Piket-Berg. One of only 2 roads (the other we rode the following day towards Goedverwacht) giving access to this unique mountain area; well known for its citrus.
The man's too big, the man's too tall....
Looking down the pass towards Piketberg
Another 20 kms we came to the primative campsite - bare, only cold water, ants, just like we like it...
