So I locked the front wheel on a wet road... lost all faith in my bike... or me

Commuting to work this morning on the N1 into town (Cape Town), keeping a decent speed because of the wet road, Merc 2 cars ahead of me decides to grab the gap in the other lane.
Half way out her lane, she sees me and ducks back...

As I mentioned, not lane splitting very fast, so can you imagine my shock when I get on the brakes, harder than usually, but heck of a long way off emergency braking and the front locks up!
Michelin Sirac. Not back brake used (I know, I know).
Was able to save it or rather God sent his angels to stabilize and keep the bike upright, cause I sure as hell do not know how I kept it from going down.

And it was not raining. Clearish sky. Just a wet road.

Now I am crapping myself for the coming winter.
And bike is my only means of transport for my 42km commute (one way)!

Advice?

(How much grip do you loose in the wet? Percentage-wise)
