Before starting to knock a story together: If you ever wanted to visit the Kaokoland, now is the time! When we embarked on the trip almost 3 weeks ago, the place was already transformed into a green paradise, and while we were there (see upcoming footage) more rain drenched the Kaokoland. I can only imagine what the grass will look like in the Marienfluss in a month's time.
So, if you got the time, give Hardy call or Pm to book for an upcoming trip.

Back to my story. After returning from Nam a week ago, lambing season on the farm already kicked off with a bang  ???, so, if I'll get back on my feet, I'll start to put the story together.

Here's a teaser or two  :thumleft:

Ek ken daai lorrie en fiets  :thumleft:

Just look at all those 450RFR's!!!  :drif: :drif: :drif:

Sorry Peeps. I've been waiting for the mods to see if they can fix Tapatalk. Although I still waiting I try to start the old fashioned way.

During the end of last year Hardy called and ask if I could join his team to host another Kaokoland trip, this time for the Bas Truck Team.
A bit of background about BAS. Casper van Heertum is the owner of the Dutch company. They are one of Europe's largest second hand truck dealers, with over a 1000 trucks in stock. Casper shares a great love for the Dakar, in which he participated 3 times on a bike, and he made it possible for a few South Africans to participate as well.

The twelve Dutchmen and one Spaniard are a bunch of friends and colleagues, which mostly participates/participated in the Dakar. They got an ex-Dakar support truck, which is rigged to the teeth, with 3 crew members, Appie, Will and "Gjert" to make a trip like this possible for them.

More on some of the riders.
Sjors van Heertum
He ride always at the front. The best way to descibe he's way of riding is like someone's signature on the forum:
"Ek n**i reguit aan op fyndraai." The only problem this Dutchman have with his 450, is to keep the front wheel on the groud....and offcource: Marco van Geel

Marco van Geel
He's the second rider. The main difference between him and Sjors:
Marco van Geel rides/races his bike with love while Sjors rides/races his bike with hate, but both of them is fast as hell. Between the 2 of them they provide uber entertainment. The only thing they fear on a bike, is that one of them might be faster than the other.

Casper and Marco van Gestel
These are the quiet ones in the group, but when it comes to riding, their skills speaks for itself. Casper also participated at a Dakar. Casper owns a factory back home who fabricates oak floors, while Marco owns a roofing business, installing zinc, copper and lead roofing. (Never heard of copper and lead before though)

René
One of the tallest guys in the bunch riding a 450 enduro(not that the other are short at all, according to Google, the Dutch are the tallest nation in the world). What I learned from Tau is that you dont need long legs to ride a bike properly, but in technical sections, which these crazy ones created for themselves along the way (as if there wasnt enough), long legs help indeed.
Rene is a BAS employee.

He's the only Spaniard amongst the Dutch Wolfpack. What phased me about this guy is that he started riding a mere 5 years ago. He told us he didn't even know where to change gears. In his own words: "Maai fierst dy on da mhôtorcycle was a dis-satir" 😄😄
.....but in the last 5 years quite a lot changed.

The finicky, OCD perfectionist. Having an eye for attention to detail is a bit of an understatement. Nothing will slip through unnoticed. A few years ago he was team manager for 6 Dutch riders in the Dakar, and the whole team finished! Oh, and dont think because he is 53 he can't ride a bike. It quite demoralizing to see someone 14 years older than you, making you look like a "kid on a monkey bike"

This humble Kaaskop owns more than a 1000 container trucks and a tipper divison as well. He raced in 6 Dakar races with a truck. During the Kaokoland trip he rode most of the time infront me. Copying his technique through difficult technical sections made it quite easier. It was the first time in my life a saw someone's forearms thicker than his biceps!

Don't be fooled by his smile. Dont think because he's the tailgunner, it is the place where he belongs. He raced twice in a truck and once on a bike in the Dakar. Oh, and its quite hard to understand him whether he's speaking Dutch or English. 🤣
