Being the age I am most of my riding buddies are still undergrad students. Riding time is thus limited to when they can make it. Last week they finished their test week for the semester, and we wanted to celebrate.

We packed the bikes and at about 12:00 on Friday hit the tar to Ceres. One XR650L, one BMW GS800, a Honda Transalp, A KLR650, and a BWM GS1200. After a quick lunch and refuel we hit the road again to the R355, where the tar turns into gravel.
A quick stop at Tankwa Padstal for a beer turned into a hour long crap talking session. From there we went stop-stop to the Tented Camp, rolling in there at about 18:00.

The next morning we woke up with an amazing sunrise over the Karoo plains. We rode further into the park to the Africa Burn site, with the massive towers.

From there we went back to the R355 and turned north. Our original plan was to take the Old Postal route, or the Biedouwvalley road past Uitspankraal, but the Doring River was coming down, so we would not have been able to cross it. We rode on and took the Soutpanspad to the R346, thus missing the full rivers and allowing us to get into the Cederberge.

After refeuling in Clanwilliam we rode the 40kms back to the Wuppethal road. After Wupperthal the road going into the mountains gets quite tricky and loose, with large holes and rocks, but no problems for the bikes. The sand at the top of the mountains wasn’t bad either. After a quick tumble in a deep river crossing I found my luggage rack had sheared a bold. We packed my luggage on some of the other bikes, and continued on till Oasis.

There I stripped my bike to make sure there are no more nasty surprises, and temporarily fixed the luggage rack.

Sunday morning we decided to head North again through the Cederberge, heading past Algerie and coming out at the Olifants river. From there we took the road on the Eastern side of the river to Citrusdal, and then via the N7 and R44 to Hermon, where we had lunch, before taking the Bo-Hermon road to Wellington and  back to Stellenbosch.
All in all a good weekend. We did about 900km from start to finish.
