Dit lyk awesome.... somehow het ek gemis dat dit ni uitsluitlik 790/890 Bash is nie, anders ek di 990 opgesaal soontoe... :-[

Niks kom naby die Orange Army.... :thumleft: :thumleft:

It was exclusive!

The tour guide just used the 990 to display the benchmark to which the other bikes had to live up  to  :ricky:

and on that, how did they compare?
I would imagine what the 990 loses in extra weight and higher COG it makes up for with extra ground clearance?
But how does low down power compare? is it 790 < 990 < 890? wie se clutch het die hardste gewerk...

That is up for debate. I think 890 compares well with 990 lowdown. 790 needs a bit more clutch use. But differences and negligeable apart from 690, which is lighter and a different type of bike.

690,790,890,990 all rode the same terrain with the same result.....

Lekker riding guys.  :thumleft:

Is this the infamous "water in the screen" situation that we are seeing here?

Yes it is.... water in the GoPro screen  :laughing4:

It was supposed to be....... but very little interest in serious technical riding meant we had low numbers and then a few riders pulled out so we invited some friends........ At least we were all on KTMs :pot:

Trevo and I swapped bikes for a while and we both agree the 790 was just much easier to ride in that terrain than the 990. I Also did a stint on the 690 and again even though the weight difference is noticeable the controls felt harder and made me tired easier.

I rode my 701 on that route a couple of years ago and a couple of weeks later my new 790. Was amazed how much “easier” the twin felt on the route. At certain obstacles the weight comes in to play though

what would make the 790 easier there?
its a lot heavier, but have a lower COG, which should cancel out on the dexterity/flickability front.
So guessing because it has more momentum can help some? maybe just because it is more comfortable?

How did the fancy electronics help vs the 990? did you miss it while on the 990?

What I do notice is that both 990 riders are very tall, so would imagine the shorter a rider the bigger the differences between the bikes will get/be noticed.

Feels more balanced. Torque and smooth twin. Comfortable ergonomics.

add off-road ABS to that line, it's a very overlooked feature that brings lots of stopping power.

Yes, the brakes on these bikes are mind boggling! With an engine and suspension capable of high speeds offroad, those brakes are an important part of the package!

It was a really great weekends riding with awesome people, even though I did not complete the full route every day.

My fitness  was just not up to scratch and I decided to bail out rather than hold the group up or worse make a bad mistake that could end everybody's ride.

I ride a lot but the only somewhat technical rides I have done in the past 9 months was a few rides over Breeds nek which is a walk in the park compared to the routes we did.

I will have to really work on my fitness and then I want to go back and make up for what I missed.

Nice meeting and riding with you Alfred! Was a tough ride and it will take it out of you if fitness is not great. Hope we can do this again soon

Looks like you guys had a proper ride.  Hope my standard bashplate and paper air filter will survive this terrain.

Do you have one of IanB's Pre-filters?

I've learnt my lesson with the standard bash plate......one new sump later :peepwall:

Time to start thinking about the 2022 bash...I am now more than ever convinced of the absolute weapon the 790/890 is!
