It came as a very outrages idea: Why donâ??t we burn a bike, as in : â??The Burning Bikeâ? (The Burning Man â?¦ )!!! Why not?
The venue: The Pan (also known as Verneukpan).
Map of our trip from Caledon and back.
The meeting point was the Shell Garage outside Worcester. We were a few 1200 GS bikes, a 800 GS, a few KTMâ??s and a 650 V Strom. We designed a logo to put on the bikes and on the backup bakkies and even registered a website for the Burning Bike!
The ride towards Matjiesfontein was really cold and wet, with the mountains near De Doorns covered in snow.
Arriving at Matjies to get a bite, some OBS and a glass of soetes etc.
Stopping at the Sutherland Hotel for a beer or two.
Some of the Orange ones at Sutherland.
The first overnight spot was Middelpos Hotel. Some slept in the Hotel, and others in cottages closeby.
The Colonel riding THE BIKE at Middelpos!
We had a great braai, except for the wettest wood one could find!
Breakfast and refuelling at Middelpos
Somewhere in the Karoo, between Middelpos and Brandvlei. The beer was great!!
The turn off to The Pan!
Arriving at the Pan. THE BIKE is unloaded.
The Pan was cold: Ice on the bikeâ??s seat!
The photo shoot on the Pan.
Everybody got a chance to ride THE BIKE. The girls got a K53 lesson by the Instructor.
Some of the comments on THE BIKE
Braai on The Pan. Hennie the Man!

The organisers planning The BURN!
Captain KTM briefing the party on whatâ??s to come.
Preparing the execution of THE BIKE. The altar was built.
The bike allready on the stand and the petrol was put on the wood.
It was a formal dinner (only the top half, bottom riding gear etc.). Everything (tables, the spit, the clothing etc had to be taken)
The final pose at THE BIKE
The Guests
The spit braai. Pienaar in charge â?¦.
Then the moment of truth: THE BIKE was lit.
The next morning. What was left of THE BIKE.
Windpompe at Loeriesfontein (Mr Oâ??Grady showing interest)
The stay at Niewoudtville
On the way back home: The Clanwilliam Dam overflows
