Just read on another thread by Smuggy he changed the old grips on his bike as grip-overs makes it too thick and he prefers thin grips.
I used to prefer it too and felt it gave me more 'grip'
As I got older I started getting dead fingers, and carpal tunnel syndrome in my right thumb (I think from all the years of riding) did not help. I would end a days ride in pain, so bad I cannot hold a beer glass.
Last year I fitted aftermarket, heated grips to my DR and did a 3500km trip. Felt strange at first, but you get used to it and after a few days I realized,... no dead fingers and pain.
I think with the thin grip you have to grip tighter, putting pressure on you hand, and a thick one you maintain the same control, but with a lighter hold on the bar.
It works for me and maybe some others who experience the same problem can try it out.
