The thing with booking accommodation a month in advance is that it seems like it takes forever for your weekend away to actually arrive.....

Well the weekend finally arrived and 7 of us were loaded and ready to head off from PMB to the WildCoast for 3 days of what promised to be some really good riding. We had a good mix of bikes with 2 KTM 690s a KTM 640, BMW GS650, XT660, DR650 and a KLR650.

Getting Ready to leave.

The group met at Southgate Garage at 6.30am Friday morning and we knew we were gonna be in for a cold start to the trip, from PMB we headed out on the R56 through Richmond and onto Ixopo, in Ixopo we decided to stop for a coffee, the skies were clear but the temperature had not yet reached 5 degrees.

Arriving in Ixopo & waiting for the others to arrive.

Ben trying to warm his hands when we reached Ixopo.  ;D

Coffee was just what we needed.

From Ixopo we headed towards Harding and onto Gun Drift across the bridge which separates Natal & the Eastern Cape the sun was out and the temp was rising so it was time to remove the winter gloves.

From here on we looked forward to some great dirt road riding down to Bizana where we would re-fuel and get some breakfast.

This was going to be our last chance to re-fuel before we headed to the WildCoast for our overnight stop at Mtentu River Lodge. We had about 80km’s of dirt roads left till we got to the coast but along the way we would stop for a break at a few river crossings and then at the Mnyameni waterfall.

Ben was getting bored of crossing on the bridges.

Arriving at Mtentu we followed the 4X4 route in and arrived in the afternoon and headed into the bar for an ice cold beer, with some time to spare we unpacked all our stuff into our cabins that we had booked and took a walk down to the beach to have a look around, this really is a great part of our country.

Back to the pub for a few beers and we found this mountain bike fitted with a motor stored under the cabin…not a bad way to get around hey. :ricky:

Time to hit the showers, these are solar powered showers with a view like you cannot believe.

After a great supper we moved onto a few Captain Morgans and just relaxed looking forward to what the next 2 days would bring.

This was the view from our cabin. :thumleft:

We still had 2 days of riding to go !!!!!

This is Mtentu River Lodge check out the website at : www.mtenturiverlodge.co.za it is about 28km directly down the beach from the WildCoast Casino, it would take you about 65km's on the road of which 45km's would be dirt.  :thumleft:

Any ofyou take a fly rod there?Or any rod for some fishing?

We had never been to Mtentu before so we didn't take any rods with, but when we got there a few of us wish we had  :)

Nice Jarno. That river was a fly fishing dream. There was a fishing camp there (now closed) All the rivers are now protected. What a nice place.

Have you ever noticed that it always seems a lot easier to get up early to go riding than it does to get up early and go to work......

After breakfast it was time to pack up and head onto our next destination in Port St. Johns, we would leave Mtentu and head inland to Lusikisiki for fuel, a distance of about 120km’s of dirt road riding !!!! Along the way we crossed many valleys like the one below, awesome dual sport riding area.

Some really clean rivers along the way. :thumleft:

The dust on some of these dirt roads was really bad and it was time for a coke stop…we eventually found a shop along the way that actually had a fridge with some cold cokes, most of the shops we passed just keep the cooldrinks on a shelf.

Re-fuel at Lusikisiki....everyone still having fun.

From there it was onto Mbotyi for lunch, we would take a route through a tea plantation to check out another waterfall alongside the road.

We rode through the plantations and onto Mbotyi River Lodge for lunch.

We rode.....well some raced  back up the narrow concrete road through the forest and turned off again, this time into the Magwa tea plantation following a dirt road for about 8km’s before we got to the edge of the Magwa Falls.

This is where the river falls into a 142m deep canyon…..really impressive.

You gotta be brave to stand on the edge....lying down felt a bit safer.

Arriving in Port St. Johns we headed up to the runway on top of the mountain to have a look over the town….

The road on the other side of the river was where we were headed for our overnight accomodation.

I must say the runway is a great place to give your bike a quick top end run !!!  :ricky: :ricky:

Arriving at our accommodation we enjoyed a beer or 2 and decided on a plan for supper.

This is what your headlamp looks like after packing it into your top box and riding dirt roads all day

We woke up early on Sunday morning and after a good breakfast it was time to load up and head back to PMB.

It was the end of a great weekend away and we were lucky enough after having 7 bikes ride just over 900km's each over the 3 days, we only had to fix 1 puncture and had no other mechanical issues  :thumleft:
