When i was in std six mannnnnnny years ago we did a school trip to the cedarberg, spent five days hiking through the mountains and one of the towns we visited was Wuppertal i was thirteen years old and ever since then it has been one my ambitions to go back, so saturday arrived weather forecast was good for the day got up nice and early and we were on our way.

Deflating tyre pressures for the start of the dirt roads

Looking down into one of the many valleys

A cow grazing

Having a breather after i dropped my bike in the sand better half not to happy with me

Surveying the damage to my bike only 3500kms on the clock had to happen sooner or later

Wuppertal from halfway down the pass

The road from Wuppertal to Clanwilliam

The restaurant in town, service was shocking waited 15mins for drinks

The road leading up to the church

The church

A pair of bells behind the church

The police station, can't imagine any serious crime out here

The post office

Petrol station

The first hardbody

It was a long day left home just before 7am and arrived home just before 6pm rode 564 km's and i have a sore behind to prove it.
Other than the small mishap of dropping my bike and the heat at some spots that peaked at 37deg and south africa losing the cricket it was an enjoyable day

Nice pics, Nice report.

I can also see Wuppertal in my near future...

It is a pitty about the drop, but it does look like it is only the 'damageable bits' that got damaged...

Call it character :D

Thanks for posting/sharing

Thanks Eisbein

Just one suggestion if you do a trip like this do it over two days and you will have more time to take in the scenery it is breathtakingly beautifull if you do it in summer make sure you have plenty liquid refreshment

Yeah - Cederberg and surroundings in summer is nobody's friend.

I also think a multiday trip would be cool. Friday take halfday to ride to a place like Sanddrif. Then get up the next morning fresh and go through the rest. Either then camp over at Ceres (or where ever you get out) or decide to go straight home if it is early enough. (Or better still do day 'explore' rides from the campsite.)

You'll also be less tired for better concentration on the tricky bits.

Maybe towards the end of winter...

Hmmmm...

Thanks again for the report and the photos. Those are nice.

So many places, so little time .....

I think that Mark is going to have to work harder so that when I get my bike, I can just ride and ride and ride and ride and ride. I have so much living to catch up on - I had no idea !

Did you say "town"? I think it's just a dorp :D But what beautiful surroundings! A nice place to stay is over the pass a few k's further south at Kromrevier farm campsite. They've got a farmstall and a restaurant too. MmmmH!
