For years I have had the attitude of ‘bugger going to Zimbabwe, I’m not going to give money to Bob', I now have the attitude of ‘bugger Bob, he will not rob me of the pleasure of touring through or visiting such a wonderful scenic country filled with such friendly people’. I could not think of a more fitting title for this story, this trip was not intended as research for future prospective tourists, but partly wound up being that. At the end of the Namibia trip we did in March we decided to go to Zimbabwe next, sadly there is not much information on the internet and after quite a bit of research, we decided to depart on the 7th August, our planning rotated around the Kariba Ferry departure from Mlibizi on the 10th. We had a basic route, and had booked accommodation in 3 places out of necessity, if we arrived at those places without booking we ran the risk of having nowhere to sleep, we decided not camp because of possible security issues, we did however check out possible camping venues while on the trip for future reference, the rest of the time we just winged it, found places to stay as we arrived at the various destinations. Carol was ecstatic to hear Debbie (Go Girl) would be joining us, Carol had had her hands full putting up with us two Neanderthals on the Nam trip, she now had an ally in Debs, Rob knew nothing of this, the world is full of surprises! As it turned out we all travelled extremely well, Debs was new to our way of doing things but fitted in just fine. At first she was a bit apprehensive about the fact that we would be doing very little dirt, but hey, adventure riding is often more about exploring new places, the roads were just a means to an end.
Below is our route, the ferry was not included on the map, the GPS was off and my Mapsource won't route across water...
Last picture...If someone would just open the farking gate I could carry on with the story....
