After a 3 week family holiday, I was itching to do a bit of riding before heading back to work on the 6th of January. I posted an invite on our local WhatsApp riding group on Thursday and on Friday morning, Tobie and I left Nelspruit for Tonteldoos.

We made a quick stop in Sabie for a coffee at Sabie Valley Rider Academy with Thomas and Jacqui Böhm.

Then back to dirt heading towards Longtom Pass.

Unfortunately needed to ride a on tar from Misty Mountain to Lydenburg, but still a spectacular day to be on the bike

After the the customary coffee and jaffle in Lydenburg, we head off towards Kwena Dam on a dirt road that runs parallel to Witklip pass

Lot’s of people in cages frustrating us, even on dirt roads. This guy reversed into the road. I slowed down, making sure that he saw me approaching before I picked up speed again. As I came closer, he simply reversed further, eventually blocking the road.

As we turned towards Dullstroom via Elandskloof, it became clear that we were going to get wet.

We decided to ride back a few km and wait for the storm to pass, rather than riding through it. We had to endure a few drops, but nothing serious.

Mooi foto's!

As we headed back towards Elandskloof after the storm had passed, it became clear that our reluctance to ride through it had paid off.

We were planning on riding some more dirt, but the going was just too slow. We decided to head for tar as another storm was heading our way.

The rain hit us shortly after we got onto the tar.

We took shelter at the first filling station.

We had a fantastic evening with Joe and Ruth Holmes at BushBoys. Great conversation and enough food to feed an army. During the night there was a hectic storm with a lot of rain and the next morning it was clear we weren’t going anywhere before the sun had dried out some of the moisture. We found it difficult to walk on the snotty surface, never mind riding a bike out of the low lying area where the farm is situated.

We waited around for a few hours and got on the bikes when we felt it had dried out sufficiently.

We soon found out that we could’ve left it a couple of hours longer [emoji15]
