It sounds and looks like it was a great organised event - for the riders... . It's definitely the WORSED organised event for any spectator. Went all the way to sutherland on saturday with the hope of seeing the likes of guys like Darryl, Tau, GJ on their machines with no luck. Nobody could tell you where a look out point is or from where they'll be coming in at least. And please don't give me the crap of - ja but we didn;t want to give away the rout - ********, they could have given some advice on where to go and watch. In a few years time when this will be a big and well broadcasted event - and it wil - they will need some spectators. Like any sport - spectators determine the size and growth of the event. Very disappointed.

mmmm, I (and my wife) agree with Jakes1's sentiment. Just one or two (identified, published) spectator points would have been sufficient and maybe not so difficult to police ?

I also understand the organisers' problem with safety, it is difficult enough to control a bunch of KTM-riders IN the race ..... ot:

Anyway with a little persistence, I had two great days of watching and sharing the event  :thumleft:

If you want to be a spectator, volunteer as a Marshal. They had a tough and extremely cold time. But saw all the bikes come past.  :thumleft:

As far as I know the there was no public liability insurance so spectating was actually discouraged.  Next year, with insurance in place, the route will be lined with cheering hordes.  :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft:

It wasn't a race.  :biggrin:

There will be times according to GPS tracking, but I don't know if they will be published. What I do know is that there was about 5 to 6 hours difference between the front and rear runners on the 417kms first day!  eepwall:

The front guys did not leave tracks, they only left dotted lines. They were more in the air than on the ground. The Marshals got beaten to some of the points while traveling gravel roads versus the off road sections the riders had to negotiate.

We will be needing faster Marshals!  :imaposer:

Which is why, on the second day, we left for our posts in the pitch dark more than an hour before the start.  There were some serious low-flyers out there!

See the road on top of the hills ! What a spectacular route down in that valley.
That black dot/shape is actualy Rynet standing next to her upside down bike , whick Pleco , after changing his sparkplug , came to help her pick up and get her on her way.
He is a real gentleman , he let her lead and followed all the way and assisted her , WELL DONE BOET !

This being the top vies and the pass at the end of the road,

I had to wave Rynet past as she wanted to stop on the switch back to say hello with Pleco right on her tail coming up the narrow rocky and rutted road.
I dont know how an Oxwagon got up there as it was barely wide enough
