I've done this route twice, once from inside the kloof and once from outside the kloof.

From inside the kloof Rooihoek cam site it takes a full day to get to Kareedouw.
From PE, over the trail to Willowmore seemd shorter.

I don't have a GPS so I would not easily have managed to find the entrance from the Kareedouw side without having come from inside the Kloof once before. As it was I took a wrong turn on that first trip. What I'm saying here is that if you don't have GPS and coordinates it's best to try the trail from Rus en Vrede inside the kloof. Also be aware that the trail crosses two farms. I believe there is a separate fee to be paid to both farms. I've only ever managed to pay at Rus en Vrede, there is no sign of any place to pay on the Kareedouw side.

Drusky, Did you do the ride with your 1200GS?
Heheheh, only in my dreams. I don't have a 1200GS but I do have a R1100GS and she took me through both times without incident. No ghastly dings on my exhaust and bash plate either. Oddly enough I seemed to have it a lot easier than my friend on his F650. I think it might be the low down grunt of the boxer engine that does the trick. He fell off both times, largely due to stalling at awkward moments. On the trip in he actually hurt his ankle quite badly and couldn't continue training for the Two Oceans Marathon he had entered.

I thought I saw 1200 on your Avatar. My misstake, but I'm still impressed that you did it with a 1100.  :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft:

This is to add onto RS’s RR. A few video clips added. I’m not the greatest editor, so for all your professionals, bare with me.

The video footage started on the exit of Churchill dam.

Contents:
Rocstompa on a KTM 990R, G4C on a  650 Dakar, Dirt Dix on a 650 Fugly and myself on a BMW 1200 GSA
The four exiting Churchill Dam area.
Attacked by a dog.
My first (and second) wheelie attempt.

A scenic tour to Baviaans lodge.
A few flyby’s by RS.
Ran out of battery power for the video camera, so it’s not all the way to Baviaans lodge.

Even the Experts get it wrong sometime.
RS dropping his bike.

Pulling away from campsite.
Stalled my bike just before crossing a waterhole. Had to be quick on the restart as I was approaching the water fast.

This clip is a highlighted version of the trip to the turning point. There were places where the going was very rough, but the BMW was ok with it.

This was the first of the tought climbs where I took a clip of RS going up

This is the famous hill of shake rattle and roll. I took this footage walking up. Can’t really see the incline but the rest speaks for itself. It will be a breeze for a plastic, and even the lighter DS bikes to go up here, but for us blokes with the bigger bikes, I don’t know. Judge for yourself

At least some of the bigger bikes made it up. RS made it look so easy, and with the kit bouncing at the back didn’t made it easier

RS getting back down from the hill.

The rest will follow soon. It’s taking a lot of time uploading.

nice wheelies, J-mo  :thumleft:
