This is to add onto RS’s RR. A few video clips added. I’m not the greatest editor, so for all your professionals, bare with me.

The video footage started on the exit of Churchill dam.

Contents:
Rocstompa on a KTM 990R, G4C on a  650 Dakar, Dirt Dix on a 650 Fugly and myself on a BMW 1200 GSA
The four exiting Churchill Dam area.
Attacked by a dog.
My first (and second) wheelie attempt.

A scenic tour to Baviaans lodge.
A few flyby’s by RS.
Ran out of battery power for the video camera, so it’s not all the way to Baviaans lodge.

Even the Experts get it wrong sometime.

Pulling away from campsite.
Stalled my bike just before crossing a waterhole. Had to be quick on the restart as I was approaching the water fast.

This clip is a highlighted version of the trip to the turning point. There were places where the going was very rough, but the BMW was ok with it.

This was the first of the tought climbs where I took a clip of RS going up

https://www.metacafe.com/w/5345879

This is the famous hill of shake rattle and roll. I took this footage walking up. Can’t really see the incline but the rest speaks for itself. It will be a breeze for a plastic, and even the lighter DS bikes to go up here, but for us blokes with the bigger bikes, I don’t know. Judge for yourself

https://www.metacafe.com/w/5345861

At least some of the bigger bikes made it up. RS made it look so easy, and with the kit bouncing at the back didn’t made it easier

RS getting back down from the hill.

The rest will follow soon. It’s taking a lot of time uploading.

We did the Doringkloof to Kareedouw run April this year.  We had planned there and back in one day, but things went totally wrong.  Ended up blowing the KTM's motor, caught up in a rainstorm and sleeping at the Backpackers in Uniondale....!!!

I's a long story, we call it "The Wrong Way Round".  I can post some pics if you like.

Why don't you create a new RR called "The wrong way round" with some back ground info and pic's so we get the whole story :thumleft: :thumleft:

How would the Rus en Vrede route compare with the Grootrivierpoort at the moment?

Groot Rivier Poort is not as rough as the Rus en Vrede route, but then again, if you can do the Groot Rivier Poort, I don't see why you can't do the R&V route.

A lighter bike like the 650 KLR would fare much better with the R&V route, but a fully kitted 1000cc + is not the ideal bike although I'm sure that in the right hands any bike can do the R&V route.

:imaposer: :imaposer:

Yaa, one seems to skip a lot of info reading RR's in the weee hours. Nav..R&V is the side entry into the Baviaans via the Lankloof

I've done Grootrivierpoort a few times, I'm keen to try the R&V route, although I am a little shaky in the very loose stuff if it's steep!  ???

you feel like some practice close to PE?
PM me

If they were graded as a 4x4 route I would give the worst of Grootrivier a 2/5 max and R&V a 3/5 max, that is the 50% we did.

They definitely say it is easier to enter from the Baviaans side.

If any PE dogs want to do it I am keen to complete it. :thumleft:

RS did the frame to frame sequencing from the video. My farm purchase is the classic "lack of experience", "touch the front brake at the wrong time" moment that was caught on tape.

The stretcher I bought from you is one of my better purchases. Thanks for the good service I got from Bikes n Bits.

We actually cancelled our Winterberg trip due to the morning weather, so I used the early up to go and fit the tyres I bought from you. While fitting, the weather cleared up so I used the chance to take the new Mtias E10's to be settled in. What better way than to make a turn at Winterberg.

Got some nice video footage of the Winterberg enduro race and of course of a very fast Dog (on a F800) that went past me on my way to Loerie.

It is possible to make it a day trip, but you're going to have a full day. I 'm not too keen to do it with my GSA so I have another suggestion.

Why don't we make it a sleep over at Baviaans Lodge  and tackle it the next morning while everybody is fresh. I know you guys want to travel as light as possible, so I offer to go along with my Land Rover and will take care of all the kit. I will also handle the camera and video footage.
