always in for a challenge... :thumleft:

yup...that's for sure. If it was not a challenge why bother doing it

:lol8:

We decide that at the next nice shade spot we'll have coffee. At the turn-off to Baviaans Lodge we carry strait on as that looks like the main road and it goes in the right direction. Duks is leading because he has the GPS and a little further he stops. The GPS shows we should have turned to Baviaans Lodge. Much consultation follows, The Leader gets out his map. Nah ! GPS must be wrong, the map shows the road going that way.

WTF ? How lost can you get in any case  :lol8: So we ride on.

1. We have our coffee break in a nice shady spot. Some locals come from the opposite direction and I ask them if its the road to Baviaans. Yip, that's it and so we're happy. Good call TEX... GPS se moer.

2. We're on the road that goes to Nooitgedaght, a farming community. The views are stunning. The little settlement in the distance.

The KLX's rings and valve stem seals are shot (I knew that) and it's chewing oil. When we stopped at the bridge I saw the oil was low (full when I left home) I did not think it would burn that much. I'm a little concerned.

Eventually, at the end of another valley, we get to a farm house where the road fades away with a sign, "No Entry" Oops ! We stop at the farmhouse to talk to a young man, get directions and some oil.

First its established that we should have taken the Baviaans Lodge turn-off  :lol8: But he explains this road up the little hill eventually joins the side entry and takes you to Baviaans. There are a few turn-offs.

And then he proceeds to eexplain the way ala Chris Louw style " Oom hulle ry nou hier teen die bult uit en so oor 'n kilometre is daar 'n vurk met 'n paal wat so skeef na regs staan. Moenie links ry nie want dan gaan Oom hulle...( etc, etc) Oom-hulle moet regs hou (OK, sê dan net so) Dan so 6,2km en Om-hulle kom by 'n kraal met 'n groen kol gras wat ons die mis noem. Ons noem dit die mis want dis waar ons die beesmis gooi, daarom is die gras so groen, hou links ... en na 17km kom Oom bo-op die plato by die pad Baviaans toe. Daar's 'n bord wat wys 4x4 Willowmore" (Thank ****, because the GPS is of no use  :imaposer: )

And we ride and his directions are dead accurate

3 & 4. Just scenery. As you go along you see this road meandering over the hills and you think it cant be where we going, and then you do... and its just stunning upon stunning in all directions.

The young man said the road was good and it is ( in farmer language) Up to when we get to the plato I would ride it with my 1150 and pillion. I had heard before that there are other roads to the side entry and we had found it by accident and were we glad.

You don't get lost... you just discover new roads.

1. We stop often, just to drink it in (and smoke) TEX admires the KLX. That's his happy face

2. A view

3. "Na 7.45km kom Oom by twee pale aan die regter kant. Ry net verby" (there is nowhere else to go  :lol8: )

4. The outjie just would not get out the way. Just before we got here there was a few sand patches where TEX had a  "O Fok !" moment with one of the most elegant wobbly's I've ever seen. I still don't know how he pulled that 1200 out of it.  :thumleft:

1. Down in another kloof we find a good spot for a rest. Duks remaks what another kak day it is in Africa. Ja-nee Boet, you gotto love being a white man in Africa.

We chill for a while and solve most of the problems. There is just something about this kind of bro-mance on a bike trip that you get nowhere else

Stunning riding area you've got in front of your noses down there. Thanks for sharing. :thumleft:

1 & 2. Pics

3. At 'Die Mis' we keep left as instructed and up a little hill we get to the plato where we join the road coming from Baviaans lodge. Now we know where we are lost, as the board says so  :thumleft:

4. We came up from the left. The road we should have come in on is at the far end of the pic. One day soon.

En hier is nou waar die dag se pret begin  :eek7:

And then he proceeds to eexplain the way ala Chris Louw style

:imaposer: En ons weet hoe goed ek jou rigting aanwysings volg.

Lyk my ek sal 'n DR650 moet aanskaf.  >:D

classic jup  :deal:

just decided to sell the barge.. and buy something small. :thumleft:

From here on it takes concentration and its not for the faint hearted. The pics don't do justice to how steep some op the climbs are and of course, on the worst spots you can't stop to take pics. You just gun it. Its up and down with lots of loose rock and stone

And it just goes on, and you having so much fun you can just **** yourself, and you don't want it to stop.

Finally you get to the end of the plato and there's a pass that drops like an Otis lift, and there in front lies Rus en Vrede in the valley.

I look at the pic and remember the actual scene. I can show you its there, and I did not **** you, but you have to go do it yourself to appreciate the magnificence.

1. Crab meandering down the pass. This gives you a good idea of what to expect most of the route

2,3 & 4 All safe at the bottom. What a rush. It was middle of the day the day and we almost turned around and went back

Did I mention we were worried about rain when planning the ride. It was a balmy 30 degrees or so. We kakked  :imaposer:
