It was carnage on the way up. James and Karen, riding pillion came down on the switchbacks and Karen, we later learned, fractured a bone in her wrist and tore ligaments as well. Shirley was down again and being assisted by Boris and Pikkie went down a as well.

We had been waiting for a while and it took the rest some time to join us at the top.

Thanks for this report Noneking, a group of us have also just returned from that area. Ben Mac was the toughest pass for me, followed by parts of the TTT. Unfortunately we couldn't do Bastervoet as the weather was kak and we were under a bit of time pressure.

We didn't have the snow to contend with, but it was muddy, loose and rocky - quite a challenge on a big bike. The whole way up I was dreaming of a 701 / PR7.

Nice report and pictures.....mm miss those Ralley Raid Adventure days around that area..... :drif: :thumleft:

We started up towards the final climb to the summit. It was extremely muddy and slippery and at the first climb Mike spun out his rear and blocked the trail which left with no space. She toppled over and fell head first down the drop-off to the right. Boris and I assisted her and she got going again.

The penultimate climb was intimidating as hell.........  >:D Blue sky and massive drop to your right and rock face to your left. The track goes around a rocky outcrop and you can only see the start of the climb. Coming around the bend, the climb gets steeper and ideal line is far out towards the right. My severe fear of heights had me hugging the left and ended with me running out of momentum and putting the bike down just before the end of the climb.

Righard came up the climb like a pro.......then lost it halfway up and looked like he was going to end up down the mountain somewhere. I for one stopped taking photos and uttered a few choice swearwords. Righard said that everything suddenly went blue as it looked like he was going over the edge. Then, out of the blue (excuse the pun) , he corrected it and came to a stop at the end of the climb
