If thats the container on the one picture you were at Thuli tricbeacon. If you turned right at the container as some of the pics indicate you would be able to ride all the way to Eagles Nest right opposite Bushmansnek resort. I deployed all along that route and the containers was set up for us if the snow or mist catch up we just took our bikes and went to the nearest container I had keys for the containers with rations and dry wood in it and 10 men could sleep in there on bunker beds. The containers were about 10km from each other. From the container to the left as you come up the pass there is flat green grass with a waterpool at the bottom you can actually ride lekke fast into it with your bike. My troops were deployed with 10x bikes and 10x tracker dogs on the mountain and had a grouping of 30 guys at the farm house just as you enter the pass Underberg side. If I had to go down the pass I was normally alone so the troops on top will report to the guys at the bottom that the kapitan is decsending and they will wait 3.5 hours and then the bottom troops wil start searching from me to the top and the top guys will start from the top. Old Snoeks Nuiewhoudt old Recce stayed in that house and he was the local Farm Watch guy. Ai lekker tye.

Out of interest, does jetting play a role considering you stay in NP, and going up to Lesotho (What is the elevation change?)

Funny you should mention it, my XR was idling 100% at the start of the trip, then at the top it wasn't idling properly and was stalling, back at the bottom it was fine again.

Attached an xls file, containing amongst other XR set up info, a jetting calculation chart, which can be used for other bikes as well.

Excellent trail finding Jon!

Rassie's cooment is also interesting as you used to be able to ride up Thuli Pass after paying your R10 at the bottom and come up on the border near the stock theft container. Then there was a stunning ride north along the border to above Bushman's Nek.  The time I tagged along there was one potential pass down between Thuli and Bushman's into timber where we sent a recce on a KTM 200 who reported it ridable but we were a little scared of it being private land.

We rode down Bushman's Nek pass which was quite hectic, particularly for me, and up would be a real challenge.  A few SAPS at the very quiet border post (usually walkers, maybe mountain bikers only) were pretty surprised to see us.

Hey husky

should have known that if I found a remote track on top of thw berg, if anyone knew it and had ridden it before it would be you  :thumleft:

We saw the path heading North, looked interesting, but the route I had plotted went other side of the point and into Lesotho. Will have to go back and try the other direction soon.

You keen?

Rassie what year was that.... I see Snoeks from time to time .He lives in Durban and works in Afganistan.

The route North is someplaces tricky as there is no marked road but just keep straight over rock patches. The route down to plantation starts about 10km from the container at a cave with only a cattle path going down. If going furtherone the Bushman nek pass starts at a place called Watershed takes you all the way down to the small waterfall in the resort. From the container more South West direction takes you all along the border to a satalite police station called Bellevue from ther about 50 km to Ramatsaliso gate. Nice routes to ride there. It was 1998-200w. Snoeks and I worked together for a few years in Iraq as well after that. Send him regards as well I always slept over at Snoeks on  the farmhouse at bottom of pass.
