Pom asked me to kick off a thread for a few pics of the ride he took to Clarens and Katse – happy to do.
From my side it was a great solo ride, with great company. ;D That sounds a little incongruous, but it’s the way it worked out for me.
When Pom said he was off to Katse with a stop-over at Golden gate I jumped at the chance to head the bikes nose out on the open road, but I was not sure if I was up to 750Km, when the longest ride I have taken on the Tenere was under 100Km.
So the plan was that I would do my own thing, but meet up with them at Golden Gate.
After a cup of coffee at the Petro Port before Heidelburg I headed off solo to see the floodgates opened at Vaal Dam, while the rest of the pack set off on fast roads to get to Katse.
On the road outside Clarens. They must have dawdled a bit ‘cos I caught up with them in Bethlehem, and then the pack split again, with the Katse group (and the illegal boder-jumpers : ) heading on ahead.
Golden gate Campsite – Brandwag in the Background
SW Motech Camp Fridge
After a brief, wet and noisy thunderstorm
Where the larneys stayed. – Golden Gate Chalets
Took a few detours in Golden Gate park.
Met up with a fellow dog - I think he said he was "Wasp"
At the Basoto Cultural Village – I was there a bit early and not much going on
The Vaal in full spate at Villiers.
Looking forward to the other's picks of Katse.
Thanks for organizing this Pom.
It's only Sunday, and I left here yesterday morning, but I feel I have had a mini-holiday - was great - and nice to meet some new dogs and non-dogs.
Let's do another one ! - Next time I'll ride with you to Katse !
