Doodsakker and Van Zyl's Pass in one trip?

Fantastic trip and a wonderful achievement!! Congratulations to the whole group.

I have completed 2 Country Trax courses (Intermediate and Sand) but I shudder to think that I have the skill to do what you guys did. As the instructor drummed into us - "95% is in the head!!". If you can keep focussed on that, your limits are far beyond what you imagine.

Thanks for setting the bar way up there!!

Baie dankie Stefan

You were the first person I ever spoke to about the (then) 950 in 2005. You were the inspiration to get back on the bike after my big accident, you were the helping hand in Lesotho in 2007 and will continue to inspire me.
I know that when things in my life settle down again our paths will cross again someday and I will be the richer for it.

Go well !  :thumleft:

Wow Plottie, was it THAT long ago - feels like last year....  Look forward to seeing you on (off!!) the road again soon!  There is a 990 with your name on it somewhere.....  8) :thumleft:

SGB & Co.: thanks for sharing this brilliant trip!  We are all jealous as hell, but your RR is also inspiring and may make some more of us tackle such a trip.

I did the Namibia part with my family (mid 90s, my daighter was only 14 months old!) with an Isuzu KB, one of our best family trips ever! No GPS, some 1:125,000 topo maps (yes we got lost!) and just great open vistas. Really soul stuff.  I again could smell that "wit kalk stof" while reading your RR!

Want to go back again, so one question: how bad is the "tourist" situation? I really don't want to spend a holiday with European tourists and overlander trucks?  Change time of year (Sept rather than July)?

Again thanks for the best coffee break in a long time!  :thumleft:

Hi R, the established camps and "upmarket" accommodation is quite busy during the July school holidays and Europe summer holidays in August.  The roads and camps are full of those trucks, and I would not go there during this time of year.  If you stay off the main roads and out of the fancy camps, you don't see the tourists.  :thumleft:

Thanks! Shall plan accordingly.  :thumleft:

As expected an excellent ride report that shows what one can do with planning, determination and let's see what happens ... I might have told you once or twice before but the inspiration for me to buy my STen was your previous Angola RR...

My thanks to you and the guys for the saamry on this RR.
