Chris, I won't put my cockonablock, but that bolt does not look like an original BMW bolt.
Nope it is not.

The bracket marked arrow has to be pulled towards the frame by this long bolt and go through the top hole of the shock. It broke in the thread part. Maybe i should get a bolt that the thread is shorter and not carry any weight which it did now. It lasted 25 000kms and had it out in Oct last year and the bolt was fine. Maybe from now on I should fit a new one every 10 000kms they are cheap enough to not have a ejection seat on the 1200!! 😬

En ry maar 'n spaar bout saam net vir ingeval. Daai boud lyk of hy klaar baie stres dra en dan is dit nog nie eers die faktore in ag geneem van vibrasie en "flex" wat veel erger op grondpaaie is nie.

Ek weet die F800's het ook 'n reputasie om die shock boud te buig en dis hoekom iemand 'n slim plan gehad het om 'n "shock-block" te maak wat daai simpel "spacer" rubber vervang en op nog 'n punt aan die fiets se raam vasbout vir extra stabiliteit.

Dalk kan so iet geprakseer word vir die 1200GS ook.

As daai skokbreker loskom dan dit darem baie ongemaklik in 'n man se poopenjorts wees of 'n onnodige huppel in jou stap sit 😖

Your bolt must be long enough so that the unthreaded part bears the forces. Bolts do not like lateral forces on the thread.
