Day 9 Cango Wildlife Ranch

Today would be a chill day at the Cango Wildlife Ranch. Not much to say, so let’s have a look at the pichas.

I was shocked to see they classified the wife and me as pensioners.  ???  I did not complain, as it got me in at a cheaper rate.

That was all for the day.

Day 10  Oudtshoorn to Graaff Reinett.

We overstayed out welcome and needed to take the road again.

Today route was back to De Rust, through Meirings poort to a right turn on the gravel road R306 to Rietbron until I reach the N9 to Aberdeen and then to Graaff Reinett.

On route towards De Rust.

Meiringspoort

KAROO

On the R306 we saw plenty wildlife, including some of the biggest tortoises.

Still on the R306

We stopped for a brekkie we made the previous night.

How’s that for a foot long.

Back on the R306.

Rietbron.

Towards Aberdeen.

Graaff Reinett, this guy made his own Venter trailer.

We payed a visit to the Valley of Desolation.

We booked in at a self catering accommodation and felt like some veggies and asked Tim Noakes to take the day off.

Day 10  Graaff Reinett to King

Our last day for this trip.  This would be a short stint straight home all along the tar, some 330 km.  It should not be more than a 4 hour trip with a brekkie included.

We left at 7:20 and our first stop was a couple of kays outside Pearston for our 1st smoke break.

We were on the road again towards Somerser East when I picked up the 2nd puncture on this trip.

I tried to plug it but it kept on leaking air.  We turned around and made the 25 odd kilometres back to Pearston.  There we took the tyre off and fitted a gaiter and tube.  It was fixed for now.

I was low on fuel, Pearston had no fuel.  They waited for the fuel tanker to arrive.  The bike computer showed I would make Somerset.  It was almost 60 kilometers away.  We took is slowly but ran out of fuel about 18 kilometres before Somerset East. The bike computer showed the range as 33km.  I stopped a guy who was behind us.  Luckily he was on his way to Somerset and would return as soon as business was done there.  I gave him 50 bucks and ask him to bring some fuel back.  He sounded like Arnie, “I will be back”.

This is the oke who assisted us.

In the meantime we had to do something to pass the time.

Took some photos

Ate something

And just hanged around.

After waiting for an hour and a bit the guy returned.  Sorry sir, Somerset is out of fuel.  They are also waiting for the petrol tanker.  WTF.  The closest fuel is apparently at Graaff Reinet.
A friendly farmer stopped and offered to tow me to Somerset.

This was the queue at the petrol station in Somerset.  Luck was on our side.  As we got there the tanker was already dumping fuel.

Waiting for the tanks to be filled.

Eventually.

By this time we had some sort of sun stroke and our bellies were also on empty.  We had a quick bite and headed for home.

We eventually arrived home at 16:00.  What should have been a 4 hour trip turned out to be more than eight hours.  But we do not complain.  We arrived safely home, and that is all that counts.

So our trip then also came to an end.

We had an awesome time with the Kuiken.  We are so privileged to be able to do so many things together.  This is one trip that we will remember for a very long time.

Thanks to all who are reading this RR.  Hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

Greetings and travel safe.

Perhaps you could attatch your .gdb file to your first post, I am sure many of us would like to download it and see the whole route you rode on a map.
