DRAZIL HAS THE BRAGGING RIGHTS- WINTERBERG SLEEP-OVER

Some of us, guided by the very obliging club members, did a short hike to see the Bushman paintings. Ostrich, Bushbuck and some figures were painted onto the rock. This is not a cave, merely a sheltered area on a cliff face, and we did wonder why the Bushman climbed so high to leave his mark, as this was clearly not a place they might ever have lived. It is amazing how well these paintings survive.

Behind the tractor is a farm built mobile home. These are used on the farm when doing fencing, and these are where the fencers sleep and live for weeks at a time while building new fences or doing maintenance work.
A couple of years ago, with the Koonap river in flood, a farmer, his wife and her mother, got into this mobile home to attempt to cross the flooded river. Unfortunately the driver got the tractor stuck and the poor farmer had to carry the two women and the driver out of the river and to safety. Some of the other farmers suggested the driver should have been left to swim to shore on his own.
