The ride report on the day 2 route:
This should be on a thread of its own, but then it is the second day of the same trip so I will leave it at that ;~)
Me and Extreme decided to ride Plotties' Day 2 route as originaly posted.
After leaving the farm and finishing the rollercoaster on the neighbouring farm we hit the road and hang an immediate left to get to the back roads down towards Northam. The a couple of K's of tar we hit the dirt, which was in reasonable shape; hard pack with a bit of loose rock and some bigger buried rock which look capable of claiming the odd rim if you did not pay attention. We soon go to our next turn close to Northam but detoured there for a quick refuel; that last section to Northam was a bit k@k with big trucks on it, only 5 k's. We soon hit first uncertainty, the route said "kyk suid en gaan voort!" but we ran into a lime quarry / plant of sorts; after trying to get round it, we spoke the guard at the gate who opened it up for us and we passed on through. The road at this point was good with the occasional strech of "massive corrugations". Well, I don't know what you call it but to get technical: amplitude of +- 100mm and wavelength of 700mm to 1m. Man but the scenery was bef0k and just getting better... Plottie! The force is strong with you!!!! The road surface was improving as well. After crossing the ridge close to RhenosterKraal we hit dirt highways. Only at this point of sitting back, relaxing did I realize that I will be in k@k if I did not take some photos. The photos did not do the quality of the road justice but we were cruising; at some points I was doing 150 km/h (that will be the GPS speed reading! Before I get hate mail and likened to some other characters with speed claimsâ?¦)
At this point of the trip the Photos started:
Extreme at an intersection of no-where and fakkol.
The next section after the intersection was more high speed dirtâ?¦ but before we set offâ?¦
Extreme pointed out that my bike was falling apart, well my back indicatorâ??s bolt had come lose, but nothing a bit of ducktape couldnâ??t fix.
The end of the dirt for a short while, here we turned left on a 20 K stretch of tar passing Makweleng and Holfontein.
After this tar bit, it was back on to broad, flat, hard dirt, with a bit of fine stuff on top, we are still at flying on the dirt. Here I am halfway up a hill looking back down the straight flat section on the plain below.
On the other side of the ridge we stopped at a bridge over the Elandsriver for a break. There was a bit of murky standing water in the river, but I would not want to touch that stuff.
The scenery at the bridge stop.

After the stop there was a bit of dirt left to a T junction with the tar, here we turned left on a 20 K stretch down to the R565
At the R565 intersection. Toe word ons dors. So we had a beer at the Econo Bar.
A fellow BMW rider, check the badge on the front fork. I not recognise the model but it may be a custom build. The local came to look at the bikes; they were drooling over the BMW, but all our attemts to impress apon them that the KTM is the faster bike was met with a dismissive â??Ohh.. OKâ?. The chap with his BMW bicycle was eying my bike with a big smile and I told him â??but you also ride a BMW, his face quickly dropped and he said softly â??but, mine is a bit slowâ?â?¦ priceless.

From the R565 we went North half way to the R556 and turn West to Mogono. Arriving there I realised that I did not have the detail on my map for the section of road North to the R556, but I did drop in some waypoints in the general direction. We could not find the road out of Mogono, but after Extreme ripped out his Zumo we looked at the detail on his GPS and the route on my and with a bit of back and forth we found the road and headed off.
We had another stop to rest and grab a bite of biltong.
Man, I never realised I am such a poser!! But then sometimes I just cant help it, he heâ?¦
â?¦.
About 25K north of Brits by GPS announced that we arrived at our destinationâ?¦ maybe it wants to spend more time in the bush, it is been a while since it was out and about.
We then decided to head through to Brits as the bikes needed fuel and we needed beer!

A couple of Windhoek drafts later and we took the quick tar back to Pretoria.
Thanks to Extreme for a good ride on Sunday, I would have detracted from a brilliant ride on Saturday by doing tar all the way home from the farm (the 650 is more pleasure on the dirt for me)
And a moer of a thanks to Plottie for organising the weekend with such dedication and thought to all.
The force is strong with you! Plotting such a lovely route for the Sunday of a map and not having ridden it before!
