I may be able to pick up a CB750F for about R2k. The current owner is an alcoholic mate of mine who has given up riding because the bike's electrickery has stopped working. He claims it's the regulator / rectifier but is not too sure if that's correct or not. The story changes with the number of beers he consumes.
Anyhow... this is somewhere round 1980 to about '82. Hasn't been ridden / started / moved for about 15 months (his money goes for beer, not spares). I seem to recall that he replaced the cam chain and guides about 20 000 km back, but didn't do much else to the motor. It smoked quite badly and also when he last started it, it knocked quite badly, but he said it was the carbs that weren't synched. When opening the throttle, the knocking sound became quieter. There's a fair bit od rust on the chrome trim etc. It also leaked a fair bit of oil from the one side of the motor.
The cluster is a bit sunburned, seat sponge is worn away to the tray, tank is rusty inside, but not rusted through that I could see. One side panel (left, I think) is missing, front rim is a bit buckled and generally the bike is in a run-down / dilapidated condition.
Questions... if I took it and wanted to restore it to original (not necessarily showroom condition)
1. Is it worth looking at a project like this?
2. Are spares (engine and body panels) readily available
3. Is there anybody who could straighten the front rim effectively, or would there always be a bit of a wobble?
Thanks in advance here guys...
EDIT: Pic added
