And I for a moment thought that I might have imagined this. Maputo is not a place for the fainthearted.

From the harbour it was to the toll gate. Thank goodness I was not traveling in the opposite direction. What the guy in the White Venture was doing is a normal thing in Maputo.

I really could not wait to get out of there.

There are some nice residential developments on the outer edge of Maputo.

The scenery on the road from Maputo to RSA is really a let down and will not be the type of exit I will choose for the end of my next venture into Africa. It should be more spectacular, more memorable.

The toll road from Maputo to RSA is not the gravel that I would have liked to finish my trip into RSA on, but at this stage, I was looking forward to getting back to my home country. Moz has a uneasy feel to it.

I stopped at the toll sign and scraped together all my local cash to ensure I had enough to go through.

The border crossing on Moz side went without a hitch.

I could not wait to get into South Africa, but it still remains a bitter-sweet feeling as you don't really want the experience to end.

Ja, hoe kon jy van Murphy vergeet. Die man is deur Zim op sy eie.

Ek ry Junie weer.

You only have one life, ride for as much of it as possible.

:deal:

I was so glad to get to the RSA border. Over on that side, I could relax again. Even if I got a speeding fine, the chances of landing in jail are slim. Although, after all my wonderful personal experiences with the Namibian, Zambian, Malawian and Mozambican people, I had no real basis for this, there is always this edgy feeling that you just cannot shake.

In my haste, I forgot to stop and have a document signed and I was directed back. Not a problem, I was nearly there.

Back in there, get it done. Past the gate house, over the stop, through the gate and I am back in South Africa.

I don't care what anyone says, do a trip like this and, no matter what happens in this beautiful country, that we call home, it is easier to bear, because you become more appreciative of what we have. And we have a lot. More than what most of us will acknowledge.

It is amazing how we do not realise how easily we can get things here in South Africa until they are not readily available. I could not wait to find a shop to get a chocolate Steri Stumpie and a Kit Kat.

It tasted like home.

My apologies for not finishing this RR yet (he said opening himself to some barbed banter), but I have been busy with the planning of the next trip which will be a fundraiser for a children's home.

Please check out the website at www.adventureriding4good.org. I will also soon be posting under Planning a Ride.

Good one Daskop

Nothing like that feeling going through the border back into SA and stopping at the very first shop  ;D  :thumleft:
