Joburg to Verneukpan - Route Recommendations

Planning to head to Verneukpan next week. I have looked through previous ride reports etc.

If you have routes and/or recommended places to visit on the way, please share.

I would also like to sleep on the pan somewhere instead of at the camp, any pointers to good spots ?
