Kaoko - A journey, not destination!

Hi all. I do not want to be different than KE, but our trip was different in many ways than his and also the same route up to Epupa Falls. He went south and we carried on next to the river on to Oom Willie's road, Caprivi and down Bots.

So, while I try to put the pics together, here is the map of our route. The pics will follow, I have over 300 and getting the best takes time.

The turn-off to Plamwag. We filled our tanks with petrol and slept over in the Lodge. Nogal mooi daar.

The fort in Sesfontein use to be a German army fort. It is now a lodge.

Krazy Fixing and teaching me how to fix a tyre. Man, he is the expert. Without the time it takes for the patch to dry, I would say no more than 5 minutes.

And then AGAIN I thought of girls. Man, look at that thing 

Another spaza shop and beers.

Just some nice scenery.

And this. Poop Sand (Telkom Sand). It looks smooth (feels like water) but underneath it got ruts that you can not see and, it rocks man!! It's like holding onto a horse that you can not handle. This is like riding on a sand road in the dark without lights. Not really but is funny not to be able to see what is under that sand.

Next day, going to Okangwati. (S17 26 04.0 E13 16 24.4)

Yet another cold beer spaza shop.

Now, this lady had a story. Let me tell. While I was standing in the spaza to buy beers next to her, she saw me and got such a fright from seeing a white man, that she started whiping some of her red stuff from her body and putting in on my face. After a while I was all red and covered with the red stuff. She laughed and found it pretty amusing, so did Forty and Richard. You will see some of the Epupa Falls photos got my red face. Once at Epupa, an Italian girl saw me and said ?Hey, look at that guy, he looks like a Mahimba?.

OK. The next bunch of photos were taken in the dreaded peace of road between Epupa Falls and Swartboois Drift (S17 20 28.4 E13 50 56.8) going to the Kunene lodge (S17 21 15.7 E13 52 52.6) to sleep. On the other side of the Kunene River is Angola. There are much more photos for this part of the trip, but these shows the atmosphere the best. It was going up a mountain and going down. Going up and down. Took us 9 hours to do 95km. But worth it.
I did this road with a Land Cruiser and also van Zyl's Pass (S17 39 34.2 E12 41 54.3) plenty times, and as usual, this peace of road is mentally more tiring than van Zyl's. You have to keep focus every meter you go. And after a while, you stop taking photos.
