KAROO AND BAVIAANS TRIP, AUGUST 2019

A little shaken and wet we proceed.  I sense my wife lost her confidence and she is getting tired.  We reached the bottom of our last climb over Holgat pss, then it is down hill from here and we are out of Baviaans.
I smoke a few cigarettes here to give the wife some needed rest.  When we get on our bikes my bikes battery is gone, no light no nothing.  Off comes the luggage and we jump start my bike using my wife's bike battery.  No go, all still dead, I feel the battery and notice the bat is warm on the touch.  I disconnect the jumper cables and see smoke coming out of my bikes battery.  Not good.

We are stuck, I start to remove my battery thinking I will use the battery from my wife's bike to start my bike.  I will then tow her out of Baviaans to the closest town where we can source another battery.
As I am busy a vehicle approach.  A young chap by the name of Mark arrives and ask what the problem is.  I show him and he offers to load the bikes on his bakkie and take us to Patensie.  We agree but only my bike, I will ride the wife's bike out.

Bike loaded on the bakkie and me riding the cement slab out to the top of Holgat Pass.

Geez man, I thought my little 650 cruised lekka, this little 250 surprises me, I am having a jol on this little scooter.  Smiles all over.

I give it gas to the exit gate at Patensie side and wait, and wait, and wait.  I even listen world cup rugby from the locals radio a distance from me in their barracks.

I eventually turn back in search of my wife and Mark.  I found them almost at the gate and turn back.

We check out at the gate and we leave for Patensie.  In Patensie Mark tell us rather to go through to PE, where I would more likely get a battery instead of here in Patensie.  He offers to take the bike through to PE.

We agree and on the road my wife in the mean time organised accommodation for us.  Mark takes the wife and the bike right to the accommodation place.

We are very grateful for this young lads help.    We offer to pay for his effort which is declined.
The wife however made a nice leather purse for his girlfriend and a leather sheath for his leatherman.  I made him a camping axe and we went down two weeks later and delivered it to him.  We are now friend.  :thumleft: :thumleft:

That's our rr.

The following day I purchased a new battery, fetched it with the wife's bike.  Did the transplant and we were on the road in the rain all the way to King.

Hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

Cheers from the

VIS ARENDE.    :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft:

Sy sal, haar mind was net nie reg nie.  Sy het al baie erger gery sonder probleme, daai dag het sy net nie haar mojo gekry nie.  :thumleft:  Maar ten minste het sy afgekoel.  :lol8:

Thanks eberhard, although we had a great fun time, this is just a normal trip for two boring pensioners.  :thumleft:

I will do our recent Namibia trip soon and that rr will not even touch the roll of honour.      :patch:

It is not the size of the vessel. It is the motion of the ocean that counts.
