Went back to sawbones, and he says it's a "Supra-patellar Effusion" - an infection in a cavity that is normally filled with a lubricant like stuff (like KY?) between the joint structure and the skin. says it's likely a result of the cut I got on the knee together with bruising caused by the fall.

Plan A - antibiotics -
Plan B - On the table on Wednesday. Small sleep, small snip, drain the gunk under sterile conditions to prevent the infection spreading into the joint structure.

Whew - A few more falls and I'll feel like I went through med-school.  :

Sounds similar to my issue with the foot.

In my case a course of antibiotics and 2 weeks of ice-packs 24hr a day worked.

That would be good. Dust on bikes is not good.

Yesterday I would have said, "No Chance", but today the knee looks a little bit better. I think Dr. Sawbones has found the antibiotic to zap the bugs that made a happy home in the bruise site.

Let's hope.
