Went back to sawbones, and he says it's a "Supra-patellar Effusion" - an infection in a cavity that is normally filled with a lubricant like stuff (like KY?) between the joint structure and the skin. says it's likely a result of the cut I got on the knee together with bruising caused by the fall.
Plan A - antibiotics -
Plan B - On the table on Wednesday. Small sleep, small snip, drain the gunk under sterile conditions to prevent the infection spreading into the joint structure.
Whew - A few more falls and I'll feel like I went through med-school. :
